Their defeat to the Lakers in the 2002 Conference Finals series featured so many controversial referee decisions that a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-2008-jun-13-sp-nader13-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presidential candidate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> wrote to David Stern to request an investigation. Kings fans aren\u2019t used to having nice things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shockingly, the Kings got <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/23\/nba-draft-lottery-recap\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lottery luck<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and received the fourth pick. The deadline deal headlined by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/halibty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Tyrese Haliburton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sabondo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Domantas Sabonis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> signals Sacramento could trade their draft pick for a veteran. The Kings\u2019 desire to make the playoffs could lead them to make a trade that isn\u2019t best for the franchise long-term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who could the Kings target if they pass on their chance at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/jaden-ivey-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jaden Ivey<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/keegan-murray-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Keegan Murray<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? They won\u2019t be the only team looking to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/24\/portland-trail-blazers-three-best-options-post-draft-lottery\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trade their pick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/randlju01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Julius Randle<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> might be an option but appears to be a poor defensive fit with Sabonis and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barneha02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Harrison Barnes<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. What team could find itself picking fourth on June 23rd?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Sacramento Kings: Three Trades to Consider With the Fourth Pick<\/h2>\n<h3><b>Trade for Donovan Mitchell in Utah<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlikely? Of course. But not entirely impossible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mitchdo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Donovan Mitchell<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> probably isn\u2019t leaving Utah. He\u2019s younger than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/goberru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Rudy Gobert<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and would likely be management\u2019s choice if forced to keep one star. But let\u2019s say he\u2019s told owner Ryan Smith and new head decision-maker Danny Ainge he\u2019s tired of Salt Lake City. Ainge is notoriously unsentimental, notably trading Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn in 2013 and breaking up the ubuntu-Celtics. He may not want to trade Mitchell to his hometown of New York and opt to take the best package instead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mitchda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Davion Mitchell<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Barnes, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidju01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Justin Holiday<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the number four pick, the Kings\u2019 second-round pick, and two more first-round picks <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/u\/mlovewrites\/trades\/2c9YXVihlVZtcv\/kings-jazz-4th-pick-for-donovan-mitchell\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the best package<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? What if you give Utah the option to swap two more first-round picks? This would allow Utah to form an airtight defensive unit around Gobert. If things go wrong, Barnes and Holiday are tradeable on deals that expire this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s no need to explain why the Kings make this trade. Mitchell instantly becomes the Kings\u2019 best player since\u2026<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/couside01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>DeMarcus Cousins<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Maybe Chris Webber? Possibly Oscar Robertson?<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Trade for Mikal Bridges in Phoenix<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This isn\u2019t the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/u\/mlovewrites\/trades\/KLCOdA2uQWqteF\/kings-suns-4th-pick-for-mikal-bridges\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unlikeliest trade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on this list, but it might be the most enticing option for Kings GM Monte McNair. This trade depends on Phoenix\u2019s GM James Jones feeling major changes are necessary after their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/15\/dominant-dallas-mavericks-win-series-vs-phoenix-suns\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defeat to the Mavericks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Phoenix might <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/18\/potential-deandre-ayton-landing-spots\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consider moving<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aytonde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Deandre Ayton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since he is a restricted free agent; that\u2019s how <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/grahade01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Devonte\u2019 Graham<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/markkla01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Lauri Markkanen<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> changed teams last offseason. Additionally, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Chris Paul<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> just turned 37 and wilted in the playoffs. The Suns can hope to replace Ayton with a similarly talented player, but that isn\u2019t possible with Paul. Phoenix could trade with Ayton, and deal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bridgmi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Mikal Bridges<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Sacramento for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holmeri01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Richaun Holmes<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Holiday, and the fourth pick. Holmes, a former Sun, takes Ayton\u2019s place at center. Holiday is a low-cost Bridges replacement, and the 4th pick gives Phoenix a chance at a star to replace Paul down the road.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kings should be elated if they can trade their draft pick for Bridges. He currently embodies the much-coveted \u201cthree-and-D\u201d template as a rangy, All-Defensive Team wing shooting 37% from three for his career. He has shown mid-range shot creation ability and has the knowledge to cut to the rim when openings appear. That should make him an especially good fit with Sabonis, and he slides in perfectly on the wing with the Sabonis-Barnes-<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/foxde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>De\u2019Aaron Fox<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trio. Minutes with Mitchell would give Sacramento a hellacious pair of perimeter defenders. The Kings just need Phoenix to tear their team down.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Trade for Saddiq Bey in Detroit<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kings <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheSteinLine\/status\/1487147789473746945?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1487147789473746945%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpistonpowered.com%2F2022%2F02%2F02%2Fkings-jerami-grant-trade-pistons%2F\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were rumored<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be interested in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/grantje01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jerami Grant<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the 2022 trade deadline, but the team should want to trade its draft pick <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/u\/mlovewrites\/trades\/UYqxg0grQeVfVY\/kings-pistons-4th-pick-for-saddiq-bey\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for a different Piston<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beysa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Saddiq Bey<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would be a tremendous fit in Sacramento as a powerful, 23-year-old 6\u20197\u201d wing who averaged 36% from three across two seasons. Bey\u2019s not the defender Grant is, and can\u2019t compete with his athleticism despite being five years younger. He\u2019s a more reliable and versatile shooter, however, and would fit seamlessly in Sacramento. His presence would allow <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new coach <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/12\/what-kings-fans-should-expect-from-new-head-coach-mike-brown\/\" target=\"_self\">Mike Brown<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to have a starting lineup with Fox as the only player under 6\u20197\u201d. Adding <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harklma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Maurice Harkless<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lylestr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Trey Lyles<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Fox-Bey-Barnes-Sabonis would give the Kings enviable perimeter size and defensive versatility. If the Kings re-sign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/divindo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Donte DiVincenzo<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he could replace Harkless or Lyles to form a well-rounded closing lineup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bey\u2019s youth and shooting are also reasons why Detroit GM Troy Weaver values him over Grant, however. Detroit has the number five pick in the draft and is unlikely to give up Bey to move just one spot. The Pistons can\u2019t trade a future first-round pick until 2025 due to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/nba-trade-deadline-2022-how-complex-stepien-rule-decides-which-teams-can-and-cant-deal-first-round-picks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stepien rule<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and they wouldn\u2019t be willing to trade that pick without protections. Perhaps Detroit would package Bey with a top-eight protected 2025 first-round pick and the second-round pick the Pistons own in this draft (no. 46 via Brooklyn)? Finding the right combination of picks for this deal is difficult, but Bey would be a fantastic fit in Sacramento.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Sacramento Kings: Other Possible Trades<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could the presence of a new GM (Tim Connelly, poached from Denver) in Minnesota inspire roster changes? The Kings could offer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/u\/mlovewrites\/trades\/k3tAiIi5CDSQz-\/kings-wolves-4th-pick-for-vanderbiltmcdaniels\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to trade their draft pick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Timberwolves in exchange for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vandeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jarred Vanderbilt<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdanja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jaden McDaniels<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Minnesota would include their pick at no. 19. Vanderbilt is a strong defensive frontcourt reserve; he can help Mitchell lock up opposing benches and play some with Sabonis. McDaniels has starter upside as a potential three-and-D wing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kings could <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/u\/mlovewrites\/trades\/YvWIvw5Uvs3LRG\/kings-thunder-4th-pick-for-lu-dort\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trade their draft pick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Thunder for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dortlu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Luguentz Dort<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Oklahoma City\u2019s pick in the draft, no. 12. The Thunder have the second pick, and adding the fourth gives them the resources to potentially move to number one. Dort would be a lead perimeter defender for Sacramento with the strength to guard larger players. Since is a free agent after the 2022-2023 season, the Kings should try to pry an additional second-round pick from GM Sam Presti.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/u\/mlovewrites\/trades\/RHMcSoL-KqrmRm\/kings-wizards-4th-pick-for-deni-avdija\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sacramento could look to trade their pick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/avdijde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Deni Avdija<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Wizards\u2019 number 10 selection. He played sturdy perimeter defense off Washington\u2019s bench last season. Avdija\u2019s free throw percentage improved from 64% to 76% from year one to year two, offering hope his three-point percentage can rise from 31%. The Kings have the pieces to form an egalitarian offense with Fox\u2019s spontaneity, Sabonis\u2019 passing, and Brown fresh off the Warriors\u2019 bench. Avdija is just 21 and has plenty of time to improve in a new system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It feels likely that the Kings will trade their draft pick. If they don\u2019t draft the best player available at four, there are a number of deals to be made that don\u2019t fully mortgage the future of the franchise.
