The Chicago Bulls acquired DeMar DeRozan<\/a><\/strong> via sign-and-trade with the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday. DeRozan will head to Chicago and the Spurs will receive Thaddeus Young<\/a><\/strong>, Al-Farouq Aminu<\/a><\/strong>, a first-round pick, and two second-round picks. DeRozan’s contract is for 3 years and $85 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

DeMar DeRozan Signs with the Chicago Bulls<\/span><\/h2>\n

Over DeRozan’s 12 year NBA career he has played for the Toronto Raptors and the San Antonio Spurs. He has averaged 20.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for his career. He was originally drafted in the first round, ninth overall of the 2009 NBA draft by the Raptors. Last season he scored 21.6 points and added 6.9 assists per game for the Spurs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After playing nine years with the Toronto Raptors, DeRozan was traded to the Spurs in a trade for Kawhi Leonard<\/a><\/strong>. In his three years playing for a young and developing Spurs team, he averaged 21.7 points per game. Despite his solid production, it has been rumored that he wanted to play elsewhere and contend for a championship. DeRozan will join Lonzo Ball<\/a><\/strong>, and Alex Caruso<\/a><\/strong> as newly acquired players for the Bulls<\/a>, a team looking to contend for playoffs next season.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/span><\/h3>\n

DeRozan’s production might take a hit in Chicago. He’ll have to share some shots with Zach LaVine<\/a><\/strong>, but he should serve as a quality 2nd option on offense. Alongside Ball, LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic<\/a><\/strong>, the Bulls will have a very nice offensive attack. After finishing 11th in the Eastern Conference last season, DeRozan should help the Bulls jump into the playoff mix.<\/p>\n
