They were able to do this by landing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a><\/strong> in free agency and trading for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Davis<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They won yet another title, but they gave up a lot of assets in the process. There are many players in the league who are having breakout seasons or already have had one, and you look at them and think, \u201cOh yeah, they used to play for the Lakers.\u201d The amount of talent they\u2019ve had to give up is actually staggering.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Best Former Lakers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is not an argument against the moves that the Lakers made. They won a championship which is the ultimate goal of any team, so they are completely justified in the trades they have made. Would this lineup have made the Lakers a championship team either now or in the future? It\u2019s impossible to say, but now they have a chip with Davis. This is more to illustrate all the talent they had to give up to get to that point.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ex-Lakers Point Guard &#8211; D\u2019Angelo Russell<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers drafted him second overall in the 2015 draft. He was traded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/nets\/\" target=\"_self\">Brooklyn Nets<\/a> two years later along with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mozgoti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Timofey Mozgov<\/a><\/strong> in exchange for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lopezbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brook Lopez<\/a><\/strong> and the draft pick that would become <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuzmaky01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Kuzma<\/a><\/strong>. Kuzma, of course, was a member of the Lakers&#8217; championship team. This move also allowed room for the team to select <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/balllo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lonzo Ball<\/a><\/strong> second overall in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While in Brooklyn, Russell made the All-Star team in his fourth season, at just the age of 22. He\u2019s been traded more often than any other young All-Star in recent memory, playing for four teams in his first five seasons, but his production speaks for itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s averaging 19.3 points and 5.1 assists per game. He hasn\u2019t quite matched his production from his All-Star year but he\u2019s one of the building blocks of a young, struggling <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/timberwolves\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a> team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ex-Lakers Shooting Guard &#8211; <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Clarkson<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clarkson was a second-round pick in 2014. He was traded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/cavaliers\/\" target=\"_self\">Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> after three and a half years on the Lakers, and then to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/jazz\/\" target=\"_self\">Utah Jazz<\/a> in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, he\u2019s the clear frontrunner for Sixth Man of the Year. He\u2019s averaging 18.2 points per game, which leads the league for players coming off the bench. Not to mention that he\u2019s doing it while on the team with the best record in the league.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ex-Lakers Small Forward &#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/ingrabr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brandon Ingram<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ingram was the second pick in the 2016 draft and the biggest bargaining chip in the trade with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/pelicans\/\" target=\"_self\">New Orleans Pelicans<\/a> in exchange for Davis. Ingram made his first All-Star game last year and looks likely to return this year, and for many years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 6\u20198\u201d, Ingram can handle the ball, take defenders off of the dribble, create his own shot, and create for his teammates. He has a complete skill set. This year he\u2019s averaging 23.6 points, 4.8 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2% from three.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/zion-williams-2.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zion Williams<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willizi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on<\/a><\/strong> are the building blocks for what looks like a bright future in New Orleans.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ex-Lakers Power Forward &#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/randlju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Julius Randle<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Randle was the seventh pick in 2014 and another player in the Davis trade. He was in New Orleans for one year before going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/knicks\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Knicks<\/a> in free agency. Now in his second year in New York, he\u2019s having a career year and looks like he\u2019s going to make his first all-star team. He\u2019s averaging 23.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game and is one of the best passing big men in the league.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ex-Lakers Center &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nancela02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Nance Jr.<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nance was sent to Cleveland in the same trade as Clarkson. One of the best dunkers in the league from his first season, he\u2019s an athletic big who has improved his all-around game. Barely attempting any three pointers while on the Lakers, he\u2019s now shooting more than three per game and is shooting them at 38.1%.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Sixth Man &#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/lonzo-ball-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Lonzo Ball<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet another player sent to New Orleans for Davis. He hasn\u2019t lived up to the hype he had coming out of college but has still become a solid player. He\u2019s averaging 14.3 points per game while being a good defender and playmaker. For all the criticism he receives for his shooting form, he\u2019s shooting 38.8% from three and attempts nearly eight per game. He has almost turned into something of a three-point specialist.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Honorable Mention &#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hartjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Josh Hart<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s one more player that was traded to New Orleans for Davis. Still just 25 years old, Hart has become a solid player.
