One rumor stated that Anthony may want out of New York and that he would only accept a trade to the <strong>Los Angeles Clippers<\/strong> or <strong>Cleveland Cavaliers<\/strong>.\u00a0However, any deal that would send Anthony out of New York would be quite complex due to his no-trade clause. The clause gives him the right to veto any trade in which he&#8217;s involved. That makes a Carmelo Anthony trade tough to facilitate, but not impossible. Anthony would play forward for Los Angeles and team up with a\u00a0defensive demon at center,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jordade01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeAndre Jordan<\/a><\/strong>. By acquiring Anthony, the Clippers would have to sacrifice long-tenured Clipper <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/griffbl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blake Griffin<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0However, with Griffin hitting free agency this summer, moving him for Anthony may be wise.<\/p>\n<p>Acquiring Anthony allows the Clippers to not run the risk of losing Griffin for nothing in free agency, and Anthony would be a great alternative. On the other hand, the Knicks may have a\u00a0tougher time making this deal.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony has stated on several occasions that he wants to remain in New York and ride out the remainder of his deal. However, Griffin would bring energy and an excitement factor to the <strong>Madison Square Garden<\/strong> crowd. Griffin and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/porzikr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kristaps Porzingis<\/a><\/strong> would make a formidable\u00a0frontcourt duo, but at what cost? While trading Anthony\u00a0for Griffin opens\u00a0up cap space\u00a0for the Knicks, they\u00a0would be running\u00a0the risk of losing Griffin for nothing in free agency. James and Anthony have long envisioned playing with one another, and if Anthony joined\u00a0the Cavs, they could potentially win the chip. However, who would Cleveland give up? <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/loveke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Love<\/a><\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>Love has long been at the forefront of trade talks, and a straight up swap of him for Anthony works financially, but why would the Cavs deal him? He&#8217;s playing arguably the best basketball of his career, and trading him would be foolish. As a result, big man <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomptr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tristan Thompson<\/a><\/strong> and guard<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/shumpim01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iman Shumpert<\/a><\/strong> would likely be the ones sent to Gotham City.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson is\u00a0a rebounding machine, and he would be a force behind Porzingis, but acquiring him would depend on the Knicks finding a taker for center\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/noahjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joakim Noah<\/a><\/strong>. Also, while he\u00a0would be returning to the team that drafted him, Shumpert and team president <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jacksph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Jackson<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0separated on loose terms. That means the Knicks would likely deal him away to a team on a title hunt, in exchange for\u00a0expiring contracts to clear some cap space. They own the <strong>Brooklyn Nets<\/strong>&#8216; first-round pick in the upcoming draft, which is looking like a lottery pick. They also have two-way forward <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crowdja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jae Crowder<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0who would be a great building block for the Knicks going forward. Additionally, the Knicks would be taking back the expiring contracts of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsam01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amir Johnson<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jerebjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonas Jerebko<\/a> <\/strong>to match\u00a0salaries. However, in order for the Knicks to acquire those assets, they&#8217;d have to throw in some assets of their own.<\/p>\n<p>To sweeten the pot, the Knicks would have to deal away\u00a0their own first-round pick, their 2017 second-round pick, and big man <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hernawi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willy Hernangomez<\/a><\/strong>. The question becomes whether or not the Celtics make the deal.<\/p>\n<p>While they&#8217;re a high-seeded team in the East, the roster the Celtics have assembled cannot beat the Cavaliers in a seven-game series, let alone win the <strong>NBA Finals<\/strong>. If they&#8217;re serious about making a run at the chip this year, trading for Anthony may help Boston\u00a0get over the hump. He&#8217;d give them an elite frontcourt scorer, which they haven&#8217;t had since <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/piercpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Pierce<\/a><\/strong>. They are the seventh seed in the East, but their record is just 21-21 (.500). If the Hornets want to\u00a0make a jump in the conference and\u00a0escape the first round, they may entertain a deal for Anthony.<\/p>\n<p>On the Hornets, Anthony would play the four, alongside <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/batumni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nicolas Batum<\/a><\/strong> on the frontline. Anthony would be a post threat and a player\u00a0who could\u00a0operate\u00a0in the paint for Charlotte. The trio of Anthony, Batum, and star point guard <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkeke02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kemba Walker<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0would be lethal.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony&#8217;s shoe deal is another thing to consider. Anthony is signed\u00a0with Jordan brand, and the owner of the Hornets just happens to be <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jordami01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Jordan<\/a><\/strong> himself. Being closer to Jordan for branding &#8211; both on and off the court\u00a0&#8211; might help convince Anthony to waive his no-trade clause.<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, the Knicks would get a key young piece in<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kiddgmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Kidd-Gilchrist<\/a><\/strong>. While he hasn&#8217;t lived up to superstar expectations, Kidd-Gilchrist has blossomed into a nice player. He can rebound the ball, finish at the rim, and defend at a high level. A change of scenery could be just what the doctor ordered for him, and maybe the bright lights of the Garden\u00a0would\u00a0help him take the next step in his game.
