Thanks to an approved proposal by the owners, the 2020-2021 season is fixing to start around December 22 and last 72 games. Last season ended back in October. Thus, this off-season is going to be one of the quickest in NBA history. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that said, the start of the off-season is still set to be determined. Still, key NBA free agents will be looking for deals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NBA Draft is set for November 18th. Therefore, teams could retool their teams before the start of the next season. For teams such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/suns\/\" target=\"_self\">Phoenix Suns<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/hawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Atlanta Hawks<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/timberwolves\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a>, making the jump from pretender to contender takes pieces. These three free agents are going to be the best on the market.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note: All of these players are considered unrestricted or restricted free agents. Some players have a player option, and with uncertainty around COVID-19, it\u2019s unknown when or if they will exercise their option.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Three NBA Free Agents That Headline the 2020 Off-Season<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Brandon Ingram &#8211; SF<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/ingrabr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brandon Ingram<\/strong><\/a> chose the right time to have the best season of his career. Ingram\u2019s 2020 season hit the jackpot, like on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">casinogurus.com<\/span>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to receive a lucrative contract. Ingram was named the 2020 Most Improved Player of the Year. He made an All-Star appearance and averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Earlier in the season, Ingram scored 40 points against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/nets\/\" target=\"_self\">Brooklyn Nets<\/a>. He also had 49 points in an overtime win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/jazz\/\" target=\"_self\">Utah Jazz<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/pelicans\/\" target=\"_self\">New Orleans Pelicans<\/a> traded Anthony Davis to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/lakers\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> for Ingram as the centerpiece of the package. It\u2019s going to cost around $25 million per season to keep Ingram around. It will be interesting to see if the Pelicans want to spend that type of money on him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Fred Van Vleet &#8211; SG<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/leonaka01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kawhi Leonard<\/strong><\/a> leaving the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/raptors\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Raptors<\/a>, someone was going to need to step up and score, and that\u2019s exactly what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vanvlfr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Fred Van Vleet<\/strong><\/a> did last season. VanVleet averaged a career-high 17.6 points per game. In the playoffs, Van Vleet<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansas.com\/sports\/college\/wichita-state\/article245032930.html#:~:text=VanVleet%20also%20had%2011%20assists,for%20the%20Rockford%2C%20Illinois%20native.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> became the first Raptors player<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to record 30 points, eight three-pointers, and more than 10 assists in a game. He joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lillada01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Damian Lillard<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/curryst01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Stephen Curry<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Chris Paul<\/strong><\/a> to be the only players to ever do that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a thin market, Van Vleet is going to likely cost a team $20 million per season. That makes his tenure with the Raptors likely over unless he takes a discount, especially with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/siakapa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Pascal Siakam<\/strong><\/a> likely getting a max deal in the coming years. Van Vleet has been linked to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/knicks\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Knicks<\/a>, but other teams needing outside shooting will be in the mix.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Montrezl Harrell &#8211; PF<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harremo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Montrezl Harrell<\/strong><\/a> was the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/clippers\/news\/montrezl-harrell-wins-sixth-man-of-the-year-award#:~:text=Montrezl%20Harrell%20has%20won%20the%202020%20NBA%20Sixth%20man%20of%20the%20Year.&amp;text=LA%20Clippers%20big%20man%2C%20Montrezl,a%20package%20for%20Chris%20Paul.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">winner of the 2020 Sixth Man of the Year Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after a breakout campaign. Harrell averaged 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. In 2019, he was a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year Award after averaging 16.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He ended up losing to teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willilo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Lou Williams<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harrell could probably be a starter on other teams, but he was a prominent player off the bench for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/clippers\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a>. However, his stock took a hit when he averaged just 10.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in a seven-game defeat to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/nuggets\/\" target=\"_self\">Denver Nuggets<\/a>.
