{"id":34096,"date":"2020-10-07T16:23:11","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T20:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/?p=34096"},"modified":"2020-10-07T19:28:40","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T23:28:40","slug":"lebron-james-fourth-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2020\/10\/07\/lebron-james-fourth-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"LeBron James Zeroes in on Fourth Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the final buzzer sounded on game four of the 2020 NBA Finals, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a><\/strong> took one step closer to his fourth-ever championship. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Davis<\/a><\/strong> put the final touches with a three-point dagger with less than 40 seconds to play, giving Los Angeles a nine-point lead. With this victory, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/lakers\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> took control of the series, three games to one over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/heat\/\" target=\"_self\">Miami Heat<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And once again, while playing in his 10th NBA Finals, James broke multiple NBA records. Perhaps the most illustrious and enduring career in NBA history, James\u2019 career deserves some respect from the Last Word on Pro Basketball staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>LeBron James, King of the NBA Finals\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>10th NBA Finals Appearance\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James began his most recent streak of historic performances before game one of the 2020 NBA Finals tipped off. After defeating the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/nuggets\/\" target=\"_self\">Denver Nuggets<\/a> in the Western Conference Semifinals, James punched his ticket to his 10th NBA Finals appearance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only three other players throughout the entire history of the NBA have reached the NBA Finals at least 10 times. All three, which includes <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/russebi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Russell<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonessa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Jones<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/abdulka01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kareem Abdul-Jabbar<\/a><\/strong> are Hall of Famers. King James became the fourth in 2020, and of course, will surely punch his own Hall of Fame ticket when his career is wrapped up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Best Closer of All-Time&#8230; LeBron James<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While reading this article, don\u2019t be mistaken because this isn\u2019t a baseball reference. But, LeBron James is the best closer in NBA history. Period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what does this mean, exactly? When James is in a position to win, whether it\u2019s to close out a playoff series or game when leading late, there\u2019s no one better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the third quarter in game four last night, James and the Lakers held a 75-70 lead entering the final frame. Right where James wanted his team to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Tuesday\u2019s victory, the 2020 Lakers moved to a staggering 56-0 record when leading after three quarters. The best record in NBA history. As <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/getnickwright\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Wrigh<\/a>t of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fox Sports <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pointed out on Twitter, the 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/cavaliers\/\" target=\"_self\">Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> were 50-1 when leading after three quarters. This is the fourth-best record in NBA history and James was also a member of that Cleveland team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wright continued to point out that LeBron James\u2019 teams, in his last two full seasons, are 106-1 when leading after three quarters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not only does James close out teams when leading in individual games. He\u2019s also one of the best at doing this in playoff series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout his illustrious playoff career, James has played in 48 closeout games. In other words, with his team having the opportunity to win\/finish a playoff series. James is 38-10 in those games. When presented a closeout game in the NBA Finals, James is a perfect 3-0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Game Five of the NBA Finals will be James\u2019 next opportunity to improve this record. And based on his immaculate record doing so in the NBA Finals, it looks like James will win his fourth ring in the NBA Bubble.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Individual Stat King\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James wasn\u2019t done adding some more highlights to this game four victory on Tuesday. These next two highlights came in the form of individual accomplishments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds in Tuesday\u2019s win. According to Elias Sports Bureau, this was his 24th NBA Finals game with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds. This marked the sixth time he\u2019s accomplished the feat.
