Since then, the Kings have missed 15 straight post-seasons, traded away star players for chocolates, and missed on a number of draft prospects. Most recently, former Sacramento General Manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/divacvl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vlade Divac<\/a><\/strong> passed on guard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luka Doncic<\/a><\/strong> in favor of Power Forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/baglema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marvin Bagley<\/a><\/strong>. Doncic has turned into a superstar while Bagley has been often injured.<\/p>\n<p>With the franchise under the guidance of former Houston Rockets advisor Monte McNair, a new era of Sacramento Kings basketball is upon us. The Kings are desperate for some kind of success but it&#8217;s up to McNair to determine which direction the team goes in. It would be prudent for Sacramento to take its time and rebuild around centerpiece <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/foxde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">De&#8217;Aaron Fox<\/a><\/strong>. SAC are rumored to be willing to absorb Horford&#39;s deal in exchange for PHI taking Hield.<\/p>\n<p>SAC could get a 2nd as a sweetener. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fxW0frGXoW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/fxW0frGXoW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Eagle Moneyball (@geola388) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/geola388\/status\/1311637165399404544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 1, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In this deal, the Sacramento Kings absorb <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/horfoal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al Horford<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s remaining salary, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/richajo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Richardson<\/a>,<\/strong> and a 2020 first-round pick. It&#8217;s not necessarily a huge haul for the Kings but one that allows them to move disgruntled guard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hieldbu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buddy Hield<\/a><\/strong>. Sacramento saves close to $34-million over four years with Hield&#8217;s four years, $94-million extension kicking in. Josh Richardson is a steady guard who can do a bit of everything. He will be sort after on the market as a two-way wing which Sacramento can parlay for more future assets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/76ers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> receive two shooters at spots the 76ers need badly. Hield is a fantastic 41.1 percent three-point shooter in his career while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bjeline01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nemanja Bjelica<\/a><\/strong> is an impressive 39.1 percent from deep. However, if Atlanta is interested in finding another capable ball-handler, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bogdan Bogdanovic<\/a><\/strong> could be the answer.<\/p>\n<p>The Sacramento Kings receive <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huertke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Huerter<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reddica01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Reddish<\/a><\/strong> for Bogdanovic plus the 12th pick in the 2020 draft. Sacramento finally receives some wings they can build with franchise centerpiece <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/foxde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">De&#8217;Aaron Fox<\/a><\/strong>. They aren&#8217;t proven commodities but the Kings have plenty of time to develop them.<\/p>\n<p>Atlanta adheres to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngtr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trae Young<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s request and tries to make the playoffs with Bogdanovic. The Serbian is a capable ball-handler, shot maker, taker, and creator. The Hawks are in desperate need of a secondary ball-handler given the team completely collapses when he&#8217;s off the court. Atlanta can then offer Bogdanovic an extension and give Young a partner for the near future.<\/p>\n<p>This move also helps the Hawks buy some time given their young players are due extensions in consecutive years. By moving Reddish and Huerter, it takes care of a potential headache down the line.<\/p>\n<h3>Harrison Barnes to Minnesota Timberwolves<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SAC &amp; MIN do a deal<\/p>\n<p>SAC receive James Johnson<br \/>MIN receive Barnes, 2RP<\/p>\n<p>This is a salary dump by SAC but an upgrade for MIN at the 4 spot Barnes is solid &amp; can play the 3\/4 + is a good fit with KAT<\/p>\n<p>SAC could ask for a player.<\/p>\n<p>This makes sense for MIN &amp; clears space for SAC <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8gCGHWbBg5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/8gCGHWbBg5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Eagle Moneyball (@geola388) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/geola388\/status\/1311641880464031745?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 1, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This deal only makes sense if Sacramento is looking to move <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barneha02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harrison Barnes<\/a><\/strong>&#8216; contract for no return. The Kings receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>James Johnson<\/strong><\/a><strong>&#8216;s<\/strong> expiring deal and send Barnes plus a second-round pick to Minnesota. This is a pure cap creating move for Sacramento who may look for a future asset or player (ala <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/culveja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jarrett Culver<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/timberwolves\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a> upgrade at the four spot, receiving a capable defender and scorer next to Karl Anthony-Towns. Barnes is solid across the board without being outstanding in any category. The Timberwolves defense is going to have more holes than swiss cheese but at least the 28-year-old plugs some of their defensive issues. With <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/russeda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">D&#8217;Angelo Russell<\/a><\/strong> and Towns in the mix, Barnes gives them more of a chance to make the post-season in 2020-21.<\/p>\n<h3>Will the Sacramento Kings Finally Get it Right?<\/h3>\n<p>McNair comes from the Daryl Morey team of advanced analytics and his first one is to rebuild this franchise. Fox will likely receive a Rookie Max Contract Extension but the roster is poorly constructed to complement his skills. The logical play is to secure players for long-term success but McNair has a reputation for being aggressive. If this is the case, the Kings will re-tool instead of rebuild.<\/p>\n<p>The Kings will be one of a few teams with cap room and should look to exploit teams heavily in the luxury tax.
