{"id":26721,"date":"2019-10-31T07:00:34","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T11:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/?p=26721"},"modified":"2019-10-31T08:40:09","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T12:40:09","slug":"four-nba-teams-thatll-surprise-this-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2019\/10\/31\/four-nba-teams-thatll-surprise-this-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Four NBA Teams That&#8217;ll Surprise This Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Due to a booming free agency period of moves, draft picks, and signings, the landscape of the NBA had made a complete turnaround.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Of course, there are teams whose standings have been set in stone\u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/milwaukee-bucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/philadelphia-76ers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> dominating the East, the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/los-angeles-lakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/los-angeles-clippers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a> are heavy favorites in the West.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, nearly every team has a story and has made moves to put themselves in the highest position to compete.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nothing is guaranteed in the NBA, and keeping this in mind, here are four NBA teams that will surprise this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Four NBA Teams Sure to Surprise This Season\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/atlanta-hawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Atlanta Hawks<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Atlanta is currently in a rebuilding phase, with shooter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngtr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trae Young<\/a><\/strong> running the show for the young Hawks team. Young is considered the most exciting shooter since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/curryst01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Stephen Curry.<\/strong><\/a> Young is gifted off the dribble with his hands and moves smoothly with the ball and through the pick-and-roll. So far this season, he has been exciting to watch, shooting 50 percent from the field and three-point range.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the NBA Draft, Atlanta drafted rookies <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reddica01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Reddish<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huntede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deandre Hunter<\/a><\/strong>, wing-players who are versatile scorers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Hawks has a nice blend of young players and veterans, from the rookies to free agency pickups like<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turneev01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> E<\/a><\/strong><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turneev01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>van Turner<\/strong>.<\/a>\u00a0With Young at the center of the team, Atlanta moves at a much faster pace, which results in them earning more lessons that could benefit them in the long run during tough games against<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Detroit Pistons<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For several years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/detroit-pistons\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Pistons<\/a> has been a fluctuating team, not being able to have any balance or consistency. This time it seems that Detroit could finally break out of being stagnant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/griffbl01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Blake Griffin<\/strong><\/a> has evolved over the years, being the main man in Detroit beginning last season. He has improved his shooting game and gave it his all in every game, fighting through injuries. Still, his history of reoccurring injuries is a lingering concern for the team looking to rise in the Eastern Conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Thankfully, the team has been doing well amid Griffin being out with the help of<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Derrick Rose.<\/a><\/strong> In his first four games as a Pistons, Rose averaged nearly 25 points, shooting 54 percent from the field. He&#8217;s moving swiftly and looks healthier than ever before.<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Luke Kennard<\/a><\/strong> is evolving as well in his shooting game, improving to 48 percent shooting from the field and three-point range. Going into a &#8220;contract year,&#8221; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/drumman01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andre Drummond<\/a><\/strong> is making a case early in the season to be worthy of a maximum deal by averaging 20 points a game and jumping up to 60 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Detroit has a solid roster, and as long as everyone respectively plays well into their roles, they can find themselves into the conversation of East contenders.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/memphis-grizzlies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Memphis Grizzlies<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Memphis, similar to Atlanta, is another team developing a young, loaded core.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Their first-round draft pick, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/moranja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ja Morant<\/a><\/strong>, has speed, vertical athleticism and can shoot reasonably well at the point guard position. Pair Morant and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jacksja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaren Jackson Jr.<\/a><\/strong> together, and you have a duo of athleticism, size, and quickness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Morant will be the potential lock-in for the franchise point guard and surrounding with will be depth all through the Grizzlies&#8217; first and second units. Players who fill these units include <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crowdja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jae Crowder<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/valanjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonas Valanciunas<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyus Jones<\/a><\/strong>, and Memphis&#8217;s other first-round pick<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Brandon Clarke<\/a><\/strong>. The Grizzlies new head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2019\/06\/11\/memphis-grizzlies-set-to-hire-taylor-jenkins-as-head-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Jenkins<\/a>, who is skilled at developing rookie and young players, can play around with this roster. Memphis switch young players and veterans interchangeably between certain positions like the point guard position or center position.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Miami Heat\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/nba-teams\/miami-heat\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miami Heat<\/a> are looking to build a new dynasty following the retirement of the great <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wadedw01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dwyane Wade<\/a><\/strong> last season. There is optimism that Miami can achieve that very soon with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/butleji01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Butler<\/a><\/strong>, a wing-player with a fiery, blue-collar attitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">With<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/whiteha01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hassan Whiteside<\/a> <\/strong>now in Portland, this gives center<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adebaba01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bam Adebayo<\/a><\/strong> more minutes. Adebayo is suited for Miami&#8217;s defense, as he can push the pace and finish around the rim.
