Inevitably, most players’ heights will be updated–it seems as if every player lies about their height. But what’s most eye-opening is that some players are severely undersized for their positions. The player height updates provide a lot of astounding information.

Official Player Heights Have Been Updated

To start things off, Kemba Walker of the Boston Celtics is listed at 5’11” instead of previously being listed at 6’1″. Every fan knew that Walker was a relatively short player, but this news is astonishing. Walker being able to play at such a high level while being 5’11” is remarkable. Younger kids without the gift of being a skyscraper could be given a boost of confidence by Walker and others. Derrick Rose of the Detroit Pistons is listed at 6’1″, instead of his previous listing of 6’3″. Watching highlights of Rose while with the Chicago Bulls has now gotten 10 times better. The fact that Rose was constructing ridiculous dunk highlight tapes at 6’1″ is outstanding.

Isaiah Thomas of the Washington Wizards lost an inch, and is now listed at 5’8″. Thomas played phenomenally when he was with the Celtics, averaging 24.7 points per game during his tenure. Rose, Walker, and Thomas have proved that it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. If Thomas can serve up 30-point performances against your favorite player at 5’8″, imagine the wonders he would create if he was taller.

The player whose height is most surprising is the Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green. Green, previously listed as 6’7″, has now been updated to 6’5″. Green has played a lot of center for the Warriors over the past few years. Being labeled as 6’5″ makes Green’s defensive abilities look even more impressive than they already are. If Green can guard seven-foot centers at 6’5″, imagine if he was as tall as a traditional center. It’s obvious that Green is a monster on the court, but his true height makes his abilities look even more impressive.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

With the NBA implementing the new rule for teams to report official body measurement statistics, there have been surprising results.
