The Knicks currently sit at 5-7, with a -4.9 point differential. Brooklyn is 4-7, with a -4.5 point differential. It&#8217;s amazing how perspective\u00a0can skew nearly identical squads into huge disappointments (Knicks) and impressive surprises (Nets).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>New York Basketball Weekly Recap<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>New York Knicks<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Thursday night, the Knicks had a chance to extend their <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/schedule\/_\/name\/ny\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">season-high<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> winning streak to (<em>snicker<\/em>) three games. Instead, they caught the <strong>Washington Wizards<\/strong> on a rare good night. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/walljo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Wall<\/a><\/strong> was engaged and played 31 minutes. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/porteot01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Otto Porter<\/a><\/strong> shot the ball well. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bealbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bradley Beal<\/a><\/strong> was healthy again. All the pieces came together, to the detriment of New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosede01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derrick Rose<\/a><\/strong> scored a season-high 27 points and shot 8-for-8 from the foul line, but it wasn&#8217;t enough. However, if Rose can keep a similar level of production going forward, he forms a powerful trio alongside\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anthoca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carmelo Anthony<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/porzikr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kristaps Porzingis<\/a><\/strong>. After his career-high 35 points against the Pistons, Porzingis showed why he is considered the leader of this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rukkus.com\/blog\/the-best-young-european-nba-players\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new generation of European players in the league<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Brooklyn Nets<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nets have yet to put together a winning streak of any kind this season, but their schedule hasn&#8217;t exactly done them any favors. Neither has the hamstring injury that continues to keep <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/linje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Lin<\/a><\/strong> sidelined. They just finished up a four-game road trip in which they lost three of four, one of those losses coming against the Knicks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lone win came against a weak <strong>Phoenix Suns<\/strong> squad, but it showed us something from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holliro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rondae Hollis-Jefferson<\/a><\/strong> that we haven&#8217;t seen before. He had a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds. It was his third career double-double and first ever 20-point game. Hollis-Jefferson was previously so bad offensively that it is probably too early to say that he&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/11\/14\/rondae-hollis-jefferson-a-case-study-in-player-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">found a new game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but his development is encouraging regardless.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>What&#8217;s Next?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tough schedule continues for the Nets this next week, even as they return home. Games against <strong>Oklahoma City<\/strong>, <strong>Portland<\/strong>, <strong>Boston<\/strong>, <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, and the <strong>Los Angeles Clippers<\/strong> are pending. It is hard to predict when Brooklyn may finally win two games in a row (if it does indeed happen this season), but it probably won&#8217;t be before the end of November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Knicks have an interesting schedule coming up, one that could allow them to make some progress up the <strong>Eastern Conference<\/strong> standings. They play the <strong>Atlanta Hawks<\/strong> next. After hosting Portland, they play back-to-back games against the <strong>Charlotte Hornets<\/strong> on consecutive nights. The Hawks and Hornets are currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/standings\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two of the <\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">three best teams<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the conference, in terms of record.
