A 2024 second-round pick who essentially fell into Toronto’s lap during a draft-night salary dump involving the Sacramento Kings, Shead has started every step of his career as an afterthought who kept forcing his way into the conversation. Heading into Shead’s Year 3, though, the storyline is less about whether he belongs and more about whether one specific flaw can get fixed.<\/p>\n

The Defense and Playmaking Are Already There<\/h3>\n

Nobody questions what Shead brings on the ball or away from it. As a rookie, he averaged 7.1 points, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 rebounds across 75 games, then followed it up by pushing his assist number to 5.4 per game in his sophomore season \u2014 a mark that places him among the better bench playmakers in the league alongside names like Isaiah Collier and TJ McConnell.<\/p>\n

But if his shooting stabilizes even modestly, defenses lose the freedom to sell out on the Raptors’ other bench scorer.
