Now, there are new kids (and old) on the block that are here to showcase their talent and skills ahead of the regular season.

The shocking LaMelo Ball trade, along with Miles Bridges heading to Phoenix, has made this year of Summer League a little more important than previous years. Ball and Bridges were the most tenured Hornets. Now, the rookies and other younger players have an important void to fill.

With that in mind, here are the five Hornets that have the most to prove during the 2026 NBA Summer League.

2026 NBA Summer League: 5 Hornets With the Most at Stake

Christian Anderson Jr.

Christian Anderson Jr. was taken 18th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft. The pressure would really be on if the Hornets didn’t end up re-signing Coby White after the Ball trade. Still, there’s a really good chance that Anderson plays a large role in his rookie season.

The expectation is that he’s the secondary ball handler behind White. Anderson’s strengths are ironically similar to what Ball brought to the team. He’s a threat to pull up from beyond the arc at any time and offers a positive playmaking ability.

The fact of the matter is, Charlotte needs to see Anderson perform well in Summer League to feel confident they have someone behind White who can initiate the offense and be a table setter. He has to become an immediate contributor, or fans may begin to drown in sorrow again over the blockbuster Ball trade.

Hannes Steinbach

Hannes Steinbach was taken 14th overall by the Hornets this year. As a lottery pick, the expectations should be a little higher than Anderson’s — despite their selections only being four picks apart.

24 PTS & 16 REB ☔

Hannes Steinbach records his 17th double-double of the season in @UW_MBB's win over Rutgers—the 2nd most by a @bigten freshman in the last 30 seasons 🙌 pic.twitter.com/bjbix3jAi9

— Big Ten Men's Basketball (@B1GMBBall) February 25, 2026

Steinbach led all of college basketball in rebounding at 11.8 per game, compiling 10 performances with 14 or more boards. And while he’s an elite force on the glass, his impact stretches far beyond that. He can be a hub for passing, has a reliable shot, and finishes efficiently around the rim.

It’s going to be hard to keep Steinbach off the court if he showcases this during Summer League. However, with the addition of Naz Reid, the Hornets have significant depth in the frontcourt. The question will be: can Steinbach be the elite big Charlotte desperately needs in the future?

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBaUdBcmYe" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5429px; aspect-ratio: 5429/3619;" ></smartframe-embed>

Kylan Boswell

There is a good chance that Tre Mann is not on the final roster by the start of the 2026-27 NBA season. Kylan Boswell signed a two-way contract with the Hornets after going undrafted this year, and he could provide reliable depth for the team.

While his 6’2″ size, subpar shooting, and lack of offensive upside are nothing to write home about, he is a tough and physical defender. With those traits, he may be able to carve out a role as a solid two-way guard with development. Having “Hornets DNA” is important to head coach Charles Lee.

The Hornets could still try and pursue other guards in the summer, but a great showing from Boswell could boost his stock.

Liam McNeeley

Liam McNeeley was a late first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He’s the only player from that class who didn’t get significant run in their rookie year (31 games played). McNeeley helped lead the Greensboro Swarm to their first-ever G League championship in April. Even though he didn’t have a strong role with the Hornets last year, he’s well on track within his development timeline.

McNeeley can become an established 3-and-D player in the rotation behind Brandon Miller or whoever ends up starting at the four spot with Bridges gone. For now, he needs to take everything he’s achieved in the G League and translate it to the big league. It’s officially now or never for the sophomore.

Tidjane Salaun

The former sixth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Tidjane Salaun has not been a meaningful contributor in his two years with Charlotte. In Salaun’s defense, his 3-point percentage improved dramatically from his rookie campaign, and his confidence seems to be better.

Unfortunately, Salaun’s playing time became a casualty due to the Hornets’ late-season surge. His development was placed on the back burner, and his strained left calf in March didn’t help, either. With Charlotte moving Ball and Bridges, they have taken a step back to re-evaluate their roster while the Eastern Conference becomes stronger.

Salaun was always projected as a long-term project, but the Hornets may be nearing the end of that experiment. The $10.45 million club option in 2027 won’t be a tough decision if he can’t crack the rotation. Salaun needs to look the part in Summer League without a doubt.

© Brad Penner-Imagn Images

If there’s one thing that Charlotte Hornets fans can hang their hat on, it’s being the reigning champions of the NBA Summer League.
