Robinson will replace the Celtics big man <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vucevni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikola Vu\u010devi\u0107<\/a>, who signed a one-year deal with the Orlando Magic on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Boston fills a much-needed role, while New York loses a crucial bench piece heading into their title defense.<\/p>\n<h2>Boston Celtics Break Up Champs, Land Mitchell Robinson On Three-Year, $47.4 Million Contract<\/h2>\n<p>Robinson was the longest-tenured Knick entering last season.<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/knicks\/\" target=\"_self\"> New York<\/a> fans witnessed an insane amount of growth in the 28-year-old&#8217;s game, coming into the league as just a shot-blocker, to becoming a real threat under the rim and one of the best rebounders in the NBA. With the Knicks last season, Robinson averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks while finishing eighth for the Sixth Man of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall for New York. After bringing back <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/shamela01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Landry Shamet<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/alvarjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Alvarado<\/a> and signing <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/diawamo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mohamed Diawara<\/a>, the money was beginning to tighten. They landed on Robinson, who aligned with General Manager<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/06\/03\/2-trades-that-could-help-the-celtics\/\" target=\"_self\"> Brad Stevens&#8217; goals in free agency<\/a>.
