His athleticism and 3-and-D potential make him a promising fit for the purple and gold and an ideal piece for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> era. Still, Carr\u2019s presence may have varying impacts on two of his newest teammates: <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thierad01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adou Thiero<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/knechda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dalton Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How Cameron Carr&#8217;s Arrival Impacts 2 Young Lakers<\/h2>\n<h3>Good News for Adou Thiero<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carr\u2019s selection may seem puzzling given who the Lakers drafted last year: another athletic two-way wing in Thiero, who they traded up for in the second round. Thiero\u2019s rookie season was marred by injuries, though he continued to flash his potential in brief spurts and productive G League play. In seven regular-season contests with the South Bay (now Coachella Valley) Lakers, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1642876\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thiero<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks. Apart from showing off his 41-inch vertical and defensive intangibles, he gradually improved as a floor spacer, nailing 9 of 14 from long range\u2014including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/03\/09\/lakers-rookie-adou-thiero-g-league-career-high\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">five in one game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers essentially drafted their own version of Thiero for the backcourt, with Carr\u2019s 42.5-inch max vertical stealing the show along with his efficient 3-point shooting and promising defensive effort. If given the proper opportunities, Carr and Thiero could energize a team that ranked <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/advanced?SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=PACE\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">22nd in pace<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this past season and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/advanced?SeasonType=Playoffs&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=PACE\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second-to-last<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the playoffs. The two also provide valuable options on the guard and wing slots, respectively, both breaths of fresh air on a roster filled with veterans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his end-of-season press conference, president\/GM Rob Pelinka <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/articles\/lakers-must-nba-draft-younger-140000212.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: &#8220;There&#8217;s ways to add to your roster if you commit to doing the hard work and commit to the process of adding the right pieces. \u2026 We&#8217;ve gotta find a way to have a roster that will compete with any team in the NBA. That&#8217;s what we do here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By drafting Carr and allowing him to develop next to Thiero, the Lakers have taken a valuable leap toward the sustained excellence they\u2019re striving for.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Bad News for Dalton Knecht<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 800px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB3sUdUVF0\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3072px; aspect-ratio: 3072\/2076;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carr and Knecht were teammates at Tennessee, but if <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/lakers-rumors-jarred-vanderbilt-dalton-knecht-have-little-trade-value-across-nba\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trade rumors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hold true, the duo may not reunite in LA after all. Knecht, the 17th pick in last year\u2019s draft, was widely expected to be an athletic 3-and-D wing in LA\u2019s rotation\u2014the same role that Carr, conceivably, may be asked to take on now. A promising rookie campaign was derailed by a sophomore slump (including that infamous <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/43756073\/lakers-hornets-deal-nixed-williams-fails-physical-sources-say\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nixed deal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), leaving the 25-year-old on the trade block\u2014again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 54 games this season, Knecht put up 4.2 points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting 46.5% from the field and 34.2% from deep. He, along with defensive-minded forward <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vandeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jarred Vanderbilt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, have been frequently linked together in trade packages as LA eyes upgrades on the wing and in the middle. Entering his third year in the league and eyeing a season of redemption, it\u2019s very likely Knecht won\u2019t get it with the Lakers. Many\u2014including <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7382887\/2026\/06\/23\/nba-draft-grades-analysis-2026-vecenie-hollinger\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Athletic\u2019s John Hollinger<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014believe Carr could now replace his former collegiate teammate:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had Carr rated five spots higher than this and like his fit in L.A. as an athletic shot-maker who can do more than just make jump shots. I think Carr has a chance to be the player the Lakers thought they were getting when they picked Dalton Knecht.
