One relatively new name who falls into that third category could be an interesting pickup, carrying a wealth of potential despite concerns over his offense.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Lakers Urged To &#8216;Take a Flier On&#8217; Wizards&#8217; Defensive Ace<\/h2>\n<h3>Iztok Franko: Lakers Should Look at Bilal Coulibaly<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a June 9 appearance on <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/gYh73T-xQ-k?si=hf3jC_JOzhWEVr1b&amp;t=766\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBuha\u2019s Block,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> NBA writer Iztok Franko brought up several potential trade targets for the Lakers, players who have shown promise despite suiting up for the league\u2019s bottom-feeders. Franko first mentioned <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/joneshe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herb Jones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/claxtni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nic Claxton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014two names heavily tied to LA in recent years\u2014before throwing in a more underrated option: <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/coulibi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bilal Coulibaly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA young guy who I maybe take a flier on and is also on a terrible team in Washington \u2026 is Bilal Coulibaly. He has potential to be [a] great defender. I see a lot of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesde02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Derrick Jones Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in him, but even a bigger ceiling. After the All-Star break, however, something clicked for the 21-year-old: he put up <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/players\/traditional?CF=PLAYER_NAME*E*bilal&amp;PerMode=PerGame&amp;SeasonSegment=Post%20All-Star&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;dir=-1&amp;sort=PTS\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14.6 points<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> per game on 45.6% shooting from the field and 38.7% from deep, all while remaining productive in other prominent statistical categories (4.2 RPG, 2.7 APG, 1.2 SPG, 1.0 BPG). <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/03\/25\/march-has-revived-wizards-bilal-coulibaly-offensive-game\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in particular, was a revelation for <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask?q=bilal+coulibaly+20%2B+point+games+2025-26\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coulibaly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as he posted five games with 20+ points.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Coulibaly\u2019s Fit With the Lakers<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coulibaly\u2019s defense and hops make him a promising asset for the Lakers, who still need to add <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/magic-johnson-lakers-need-to-get-younger-more-athletic\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">younger, athletic pieces<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the roster. He fits that mold perfectly, even with the offensive inconsistency. However, that side of his game could easily improve next to Doncic and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reaveau01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Reaves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who could further unlock <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MaarkyBoy\/status\/2063286905438196098\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coulibaly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a threat off the lob and on the perimeter.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I really like Coulibaly&#39;s defense, but I do worry about his offensive consistency and how much his form can fluctuate.<\/p>\n<p>That said, we&#39;ve never seen him in a winning environment.
