The 6-2 point guard, who played at Link Academy (MO) this past season, is choosing between Michigan, Baylor, Vanderbilt and Arkansas. He is <span>averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists while shooting 51.9% from 3 on 7.7 attempts per game<\/span> t<span>hrough seven Nike EYBL games with MeanStreets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thompson is a high-level lefty shooter who has shown promise as a playmaker. Thompson is a dynamic creator who can score on all three levels. The Boilbrook (Ill.) native possesses a quick first step and excels in pick-and-roll situations. He possesses strong handles and reads defenses well.\u00a0 Defensively, he has the tools (size, length, instincts) to become a plus defender, though consistency and physicality on that end are concerns.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u2b50\ufe0f\u2b50\ufe0f\u2b50\ufe0f\u2b50\ufe0f Davion Thompson (Class of 2027)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5-9CnKqlT0c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Thompson is rated as a<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/10\/16\/uconn-scores-second-4-star-top-30-prospect-in-2026-class\/\" target=\"_self\"> four-star prospect<\/a> and is the consensus No. 21 player in the class of 2026. He is rated between No. 20-27 prospect and top-6 point class in the class by Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson helped the Team USA U18 squad to a silver medal in the AmeriCup Tournament recently. Thompson <span>averaged 9.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting 57.6% from the field. The 17-year-old drained 1.2 threes at a 37.5% clip and scored in double figures three times. The US went 4-1 in the tournament, falling to Canada 67-65 in the final.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;A skilled, dynamic left-handed guard,&#8221; Thompson ranks among the cycle&#8217;s top scorers and playmakers, 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham wrote in his scouting report about Thompson. &#8220;He is a prolific 3-point shooter off the catch and pull, with deep range and the ability to use his gravity to collapse defenses, attack off the dribble, and finish inside or create for teammates.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Where Will Davion Thompson Land?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/category\/college-basketball\/\" target=\"_self\">Michigan<\/a> was among the first schools to offer Thompson, doing so in May 2024, while Baylor was the last team to make the overture two months ago. Meanwhile, Thompson took an unofficial trip to Arkansas late last year and an official visit to\u00a0 Vanderbilt on May 3.\u00a0 He held at least 20 total scholarship offers, including: <span>Texas Tech, Kansas, Missouri, NC State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio State, DePaul, Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/davion-thompson-244514\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Per Rivals<\/a>, Thompson has an NIL valuation of $570K. \u00a0247Sports has Arkansas as the leader, while On3 has Vanderbilt as the slight favorite for Thompson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBCvXZr2jB\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000\/2200;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h4>Michigan Wolverines<\/h4>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/coaches\/dusty-may-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dusty May<\/a> has turned Michigan into a national champion in two short years. The Wolverines are 64-13 over the last two seasons, with two conference titles (the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/02\/28\/how-michigans-unorthodox-roster-build-led-to-a-big-ten-title\/\" target=\"_self\">2026 Big Ten regular season<\/a> and the 2025 conference tournament), two Sweet 16 appearances, and one Final Four. The Wolverines won the 2026 national title.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan has 16 players on the 2026-27 roster. But junior guard\u00a0<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/lj-cason-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> LJ Cason<\/a> and freshman forward Lincoln Cosby <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/picture-gallery\/sports\/college\/university-michigan\/wolverines\/2026\/06\/03\/michigan-basketball-roster-2026-27-season\/90394573007\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are expected to redshirt<\/a>. As a result, Josh Henschke of The Maize and Blue Review recently said that there is a belief that May is looking to add another player for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, Dusty has built a reputation for himself,&#8221; Thompson told Joe Tipton of Rivals at the end of May.\u00a0 &#8220;He\u2019s had a winning program no matter where he\u2019s been. They just came off a national title, so that\u2019s obviously a great thing to have.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially coming in and possibly being a backup for<span>\u00a0<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/elliot-cadeau-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elliott (Cadeau),<\/a> being mentored by him and learning through the bumps in the road,&#8221; Thompson continued. The campus and everything were good. I liked it when I visited. I\u2019ve been talking to the coaches for a long time, and my relationship with them has been good so far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBMF81aB6F\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3500px; aspect-ratio: 3500\/2330;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h4>Arkansas Razorbacks<\/h4>\n<p>Arkansas coach <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/calipjo99c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Calipari<\/a> went to Mexico to watch Thompson at the U18 AmeriCup. Calipari is 50-23 in his two seasons in Fayetteville, leading the Razorbacks to a 2026 SEC Tournament title and two Sweet 16 appearances.\u00a0 The Razorbacks have 11 players confirmed for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust the culture they have and the reputation that Coach Cal has,&#8221; Thompson said, talking to Tipton about the Razorbacks. &#8220;He has a lot of guards that come through, and he puts them in the NBA and in the best position to chase their dreams. It\u2019s pretty much the coaching staff, too. They\u2019ve been on me since I was a sophomore or junior, so I have a good relationship with them. I liked the visit when I went up there. Everything was good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBVsu0a9qI\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4000px; aspect-ratio: 4000\/3076;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h4>Baylor Bears<\/h4>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/coaches\/scott-drew-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Drew<\/a> has done wonders with Bears Basketball. Baylor is coming off its first losing season and its first NCAA Tournament miss in six seasons, going 17-17 overall. The Bears currently have 13 players committed to next season, leaving two open roster spots.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cJust the development they have,&#8221; Thompson mentioned about Baylor. &#8220;They showed me all the players who came through there who weren\u2019t highly ranked or anything like that, but still found a way to get to the NBA after going to Baylor. They\u2019re obviously in one of the best conferences, too. He lets his guards hoop. They have plenty of guards in the NBA right now. It\u2019s a great school, a great culture, and I like the coaching staff as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB3RDPGR0A\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3947px; aspect-ratio: 3947\/2631;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h4>Vanderbilt Commodores<\/h4>\n<p>Vanderbilt has made the NCAA Tournament for consecutive seasons for the first time since 2015-17. The Commodores are 47-22 under <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/coaches\/mark-byington-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Byington<\/a> and won an NCAA tourney game this past season, marking the first time they have done so since 2012. The Commodores have 13 players on their 2026 roster.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I liked the visit,&#8221; Thompson noted. &#8220;Everything was good. The campus, everything I could do. It\u2019s a growing city. Just the way they play, I feel like their style fits me. They play with space, let their guards make reads, and play through mistakes. They\u2019re obviously on the rise right now. They went to the SEC Championship last year with T.T. (<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/tyler-tanner-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Tanner<\/a>). It was a great visit. They have a lot of experience on their coaching staff, and I love the coach and the playing style. I just feel like it could be a great fit as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Last Word<\/h3>\n<p>It appears that Thompson&#8217;s decision will ultimately come down to Vanderbilt or Arkansas.
