The game will be played on Friday, November 6th, in Boston at the TD Garden, the home of the Celtics. This will be part of the TNT Sports Hall of Fame Series, which features six separate days of games, each held at a different location. UConn, along with some of the Huskies’ biggest Big East rivals, will be playing in that series.

UConn, Michigan Set For Exciting Title Game Rematch

Big East Representation

Along with the Huskies competing in this series, the Big East will have two other teams representing the conference. On Saturday, December 5th, Arizona will travel to the Big Apple to take on St. John’s at Madison Square Garden. Then, on Saturday, December 19th, an old Big East rivalry will reignite at the TD Garden as Syracuse takes on Providence. These matchups should make for a very exciting out-of-conference schedule for Big East fans. Two powerhouses at MSG, a rivalry renewed, and a National Championship game rematch.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBJwzqoTav" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000/2026;" ></smartframe-embed>

The Rematch

Just a year after the National Championship game, only three of the ten starters from that matchup will be playing in the November rematch. For Michigan, their lone returning starter is point guard Elliot Cadeau. Cadeau was a big part of Michigan’s success last year and was instrumental in the National Championship game. He was the game’s leading scorer with 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. He was continuously able to draw fouls and get to the free-throw line, nailing 8 of 9 from the stripe. Cadeau was named the Most Outstanding Player for the 2026 Final Four.

For UConn, they have three returning starters; however, only two of them will be playing in the game this coming season. Solo Ball, who was a starter for the Huskies these past two years, battled a wrist injury this year that required offseason surgery. Ball will use a medical redshirt for the 2026-2027 season. Silas Demary Jr., who was the Huskies’ starting point guard this season, will also be returning. Demary Jr. played a vital role for UConn, but a sprained ankle in the Big East Tournament led to some struggles in the NCAA Tournament and National Championship game. Demary Jr. was 1-of-4 from the floor with two points in the title game.

The final returning starter — and the most shocking one at that — is Braylon Mullins. Mullins was a consensus five-star recruit coming out of high school and a projected first-round pick in this year’s NBA draft. He kept the Huskies’ season alive by hitting a 3-pointer from the center-court March Madness logo to give UConn the 73-72 win over Duke in the Elite Eight. Mullins was a significant part of UConn’s team, averaging 12 points per game as a true freshman.

The History

This will be UConn’s third consecutive season playing in the Hall of Fame Series. They have won both of their previous matches. Last year, the Huskies defeated AJ Dybantsa and No. 7 BYU at TD Garden. The year before that, they defeated another top ten team in Gonzaga, this time at Madison Square Garden. This will be the first time that the Michigan men’s basketball team is playing in the Hall of Fame Series.

The Huskies and Wolverines have only played four times, and the series is tied at 2-2 with Michigan winning the most recent game. It is a result that UConn remembers all too well. Despite the Huskies only shooting 31% from the floor, they only lost by six points, 69-63. Before last year’s title game, these two programs faced off in the 2015 Battle 4 Atlantis, where UConn won 74-60.

UConn will surely be hungry to take the series lead and get some revenge for the title game. However, with another strong offseason from Michigan, they won’t be too eager to let the Huskies strike back. It should be another hard-fought battle and may be the most anticipated out-of-conference game for the 2026-27 season.

© Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images

The stage is set for a rematch of the National Championship game between UConn and Michigan.
