With some of their own perimeter marksmen heading into free agency, one potential Lakers trade target could be a key reinforcement beyond the arc.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Thunder&#8217;s Forgotten Sharpshooter Could Be Lakers&#8217; Trade Target<\/h2>\n<h3>Isaiah Joe: One of OKC\u2019s Likeliest Trade Assets<\/h3>\n<p>On Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/48939947\/oklahoma-city-thunder-sga-whats-next-offseason-decisions\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESPN\u2019s Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revealed that <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/joeis01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isaiah Joe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wiggiaa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aaron Wiggins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could be the Thunder&#8217;s likeliest trade candidates.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most likely candidates to be moved in a trade to rebalance the roster are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isaiah Joe<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aaron Wiggins<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who have proved to be quality role players but fell out of the rotation during these playoffs. Joe is due $11.3 million next season and has a team option at the same salary for 2027-28. Wiggins is due $9.2 million next season and $8.3 million in 2027-28 with an $8.3 million team option in 2028-29.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 71 games (9 starts) for the defending NBA champions, Joe averaged 11.1 points (career-high), 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field, 42.3% from three and 89.4% from the free-throw line. Though he logged a modest 21.2 minutes per game in those outings, head coach Mark Daigneault pulled him in the playoffs. Averaging 11 minutes across OKC\u2019s 13 postseason contests, Joe put up 4.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists on .418\/.348\/1.000 splits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reflecting on that demotion at the end of the season, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrandonRahbar\/status\/2061160616988131541\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe told reporters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeing here with this team, I&#8217;ve learned that the work that I put in, it&#8217;s bigger than me. You have a mentality of, I want to improve, but I want to win for these guys. I want to play hard for these guys. I think that&#8217;s very rare to have, everybody on one team that kind of has that mindset.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe is one of three prominent Thunder players linked to the Lakers in recent days. A West exec told Heavy Sports\u2019 Sean Deveney that <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dortlu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lu Dort<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/los-angeles-lakers\/lakers-could-pursue-deal-for-must-have-thunder-wing-nba-exec\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cmust-have\u201d target for LA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this offseason, and Deveney himself noted that Joe and Wiggins could be \u201cother possible Lakers targets.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 800px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBG1CPGZfz\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4648px; aspect-ratio: 4648\/3099;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h3>Joe Can Bring Perimeter Shooting and Potential to LA<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Lakers facing the possibility of losing several perimeter threats in free agency, Joe could be a crucial acquisition to strengthen the team\u2019s guard depth\u2014regardless of whether <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smartma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcus Smart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kennalu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke Kennard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are re-signed this summer. Aside from elevating the team\u2019s second unit, the 26-year-old would have plenty of open looks next to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, strengthening his own offensive profile while helping one of the league\u2019s offensive maestros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking of open looks, capitalizing on those proved to be Joe\u2019s bread and butter. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/players\/scoring?CF=PLAYER_NAME*E*Isaiah%20Joe&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">95% of his perimeter attempts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were assisted this season. He also led OKC in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/players\/catch-shoot?SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;TeamID=1610612760&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=CATCH_SHOOT_FG3M\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">catch-and-shoot threes made<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2.2) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/players\/catch-shoot?SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;TeamID=1610612760&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=CATCH_SHOOT_FG3A\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">attempted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (5.0), nailing 43% of them. That sort of efficiency would do wonders for the Lakers, who in the regular season finished <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/catch-shoot?SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=CATCH_SHOOT_FG3M\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dead last in catch-and-shoot threes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> made per game (7.4) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/catch-shoot?SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=CATCH_SHOOT_FG3_PCT\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12th in percentage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (36.9%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although shooting is Joe&#8217;s strong suit, the Lakers could help him develop other parts of his game, just as they\u2019ve done with their own veteran players. From <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> becoming a premier 3-point shooter to Kennard displaying his offensive gravity and defensive effort, the team\u2019s emphasis on player development has gone beyond their younger guys. Even with six seasons under his belt, Joe could still thrive in a new environment under even brighter lights.
