San Antonio is now 10-5 in the postseason as they look to reclaim home-court advantage. The Thunder, meanwhile, are 10-2 in the playoffs. Can Oklahoma City protect their house? Read on to see my Spurs vs Thunder prediction.

Spurs vs Thunder Game 5: Preview, Prediction, Odds

Current Odds

Oklahoma City -3.5; Over/Under 218.5

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio enters Game 5 playing with the defensive intensity of a team that has finally solved the Thunder’s primary actions. The Spurs controlled Game 4 with a win built on length, mirroring, and a physical rim presence that completely neutralized Oklahoma City’s penetration. Victor Wembanyama led the way with 33 points and five blocks, continuing a postseason where he has emerged as a historic defensive force. The Spurs’ perimeter discipline was equally impressive, with De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle anchoring a unit that held the league’s most efficient offense to their lowest point total since 2021.

The Spurs’ defense was the story in their Game 4 win, holding the Thunder to just 82 points on 33.3% shooting. San Antonio hit 14 threes and shot 46% overall while winning the rebounding battle. De’Aaron Fox, despite battling back into rhythm, contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds in the victory, while rookie Stephon Castle provided 13 points and six assists. The Spurs are averaging 116.4 points per game in the playoffs, but their defensive floor—allowing just 106.2 points per contest—has been the real catalyst in this series.

For the Spurs to take a 3-2 lead, they must maintain the defensive pressure on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and force the Thunder’s secondary shooters into contested looks. Their length in the passing lanes has disrupted OKC’s rhythm, and they need to continue leveraging Wembanyama as a roamer to erase mistakes. San Antonio also needs to avoid the slow starts that plagued them earlier in the series, as the Paycom Center crowd will be looking to fuel an early Thunder run. If they can keep the game in the half-court and work through Wembanyama’s gravity, they are in a prime position to steal one on the road.

Oklahoma City Thunder

May 24, 2026; San Antonio, Texas, USA; Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2) shoots while defended by San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (1) in the first quarter during game four of the western conference finals for the 2026 NBA playoffs at Frost Bank Center. Mandatory Credit: Scott Wachter-Imagn Images

Oklahoma City heads into Game 5 needing a strong response after a loss where they struggled to find any offensive flow against San Antonio’s size. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished Game 4 with 19 points on 6-for-15 shooting, a rare off-night for the MVP candidate who is averaging 27.7 points in these playoffs. Chet Holmgren added just 10 points, the Thunder’s supporting cast struggled to find the perimeter efficiency that carried them through the first three games. Oklahoma City enters Game 5 averaging 117.7 points in the postseason, but their offense was held nearly 36 points below that mark on Sunday.

Defensively, the Thunder struggled to contain Wembanyama’s deep post seals and Fox’s downhill speed in the last outing. Their rotations were a step slow, and they allowed too many second-chance opportunities. The Thunder have allowed just 106.9 points per game in the playoffs, but Game 4 saw them fail to generate the turnovers that usually fuel their transition game. Their defensive identity is built on activity and “scrapping,” and they must get back to the ball pressure that defined their 10-1 start to the playoffs if they want to reclaim the series lead.

For Oklahoma City to defend home court, they must rediscover their spacing and ball movement. The Thunder’s best stretches in this series have come when Gilgeous-Alexander draws double teams and finds open shooters like Jared McCain and Alex Caruso. Holmgren’s ability to pull Wembanyama away from the rim will be critical, as the Spurs’ star was allowed to camp in the paint for much of Game 4. If the Thunder can push the pace, knock down early triples, and restore the offensive balance that has made them the No. 1 seed, they should be able to weather the Spurs’ defensive storm.

Predictions

Thunder -3.5 lines up with the historical trend of home teams responding after a blowout road loss. Oklahoma City has been nearly unbeatable at Paycom Center this year, and their ability to adjust after a poor shooting performance is well-documented. While the Spurs found a defensive blueprint in Game 4, replicating that level of intensity on the road against a high-IQ team like the Thunder is a massive ask. Oklahoma City’s depth and perimeter shooting usually regress toward the mean at home, and a few early makes from their role players should open the floor back up for Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Under 218.5 fits the trajectory of this series as the coaching staffs begin to take away primary options. The intensity of a 2-2 tie usually leads to more methodical half-court possessions and increased defensive focus. San Antonio has clearly decided that their best path to victory is through a defensive grind, and Oklahoma City is unlikely to shoot as poorly as they did in Game 4, but they will still face the same length issues. With both teams fighting for every inch of paint, expect a game that stays below the total despite the elite talent on the floor.

Together, the side and total point toward a game shaped by home-court energy and a return to defensive fundamentals. Oklahoma City’s ability to bounce back from adversity has been a hallmark of their 2026 run, while San Antonio’s reliance on high-level defensive execution is harder to maintain in a hostile environment. The Thunder should find enough scoring to cover the small spread in a lower-scoring affair. With that combination, Thunder -3.5 and Under 218.5 align for Game 5.

Final Predictions: Oklahoma City -3.5 & Under 218.5

Credit:© Scott Wachter-Imagn Images

OKLAHOMA CITY — Tuesday evening NBA Western Conference playoff action, and we will see the San Antonio Spurs tangle with the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series.
