Not only is Gilgeous-Alexander the first guard to win back-to-back MVP awards since Curry, he’s the first player to win the NBA MVP Award back-to-back since Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic<\/a> in 2021 and 2022. With company like that, the pressure is on SGA to prove that he has what it takes to win. Of course, he’d already proven that last year when he won MVP and a championship<\/a> in the same season, which says a lot about his worth as a rising icon in the league. However, this showdown against the Spurs poses a serious threat to his career.<\/p>\n

Criticism is harsh, and we’ve seen Gilgeous-Alexander already rise to the same level as Los Angeles Lakers megastar LeBron James<\/a>, Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan<\/a>, and late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant<\/a> in that regard. If anything, losing to San Antonio in the biggest stage of the Western Conference is going to be a huge blow to his growing legacy.
