However, Chicago should have a much better chance to select a franchise cornerstone with the No. 4 pick than they do when they’re back on the clock 11 spots later. Those looking at the last player they drafted fourth overall, Patrick Williams, probably have reservations about that statement. Though Williams is a solid 3-and-D player in a vacuum, he absolutely has not lived up to his billing, especially as a top-five draft pick. Across 348 contests, the Florida State product has averaged 9.0 points per game, which ranks 16th (tied with former second overall pick James Wiseman) in the 2020 NBA Draft class.

However, over the past 10 years, there have been two players drafted fourth overall who have become All-Stars: Scottie Barnes (Toronto Raptors) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (Utah Jazz). Among the most recent No. 4 picks are Houston Rockets playmaker Amen Thompson (2023), San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle (2024) and Charlotte Hornets wing Kon Knueppel (2025), all of whom are considered integral to their teams. In comparison, over the last 10 years there have been no players drafted 15th overall that have been named an All-Star. The most notable selection in that span is Miami Heat semi-starter Kel’el Ware, who was part of the 2024 NBA Draft class.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBTweljF43" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5472px; aspect-ratio: 5472/3648;" ></smartframe-embed>

The Great Debate — Who Falls Out Of The Top-3?

Now that that history lesson is complete, let’s focus on the Bulls’ best options. Right now, no player is guaranteed to be a top-three pick because there are four players in the discussion: BYU wing AJ Dybantsa, Duke forward Cameron Boozer, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson and UNC forward Caleb Wilson.

Frankly, Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. played so well in 2025-26 that it wouldn’t be a complete shock if he wound up being drafted top-three. Of course, if Bulls executive vice president Bryson Graham is convinced that Josh Giddey is his franchise point guard, it’s unlikely that Acuff will be their selection either way. However, Peterson’s length and the role he played at Kansas lend more credence to his ability to primarily be a two-guard. So, if Chicago does change the guard with the fourth pick, Peterson is a better fit and has more upside.

All the same, Dybantsa’s guard skills and prototypical athleticism would allow him to be a large shooting guard for the Bulls. At approximately 6-foot-8 and 217 pounds, he could actually play the 2-4, similar to Philadelphia 76ers swingman Paul George. As arguably the most talented player in this draft class, his being available at four would be a miracle for Chicago. He’d be their most exciting draft prospect since Derrick Rose and possibly even propped up as Bulls legend Michael Jordan‘s heir to the throne.

Will Cameron Boozer Be Available?

In the same vein, Boozer could very well slide to fourth base.

Though he’s been occasionally painted as the No. 1 prospect in his class, questions have persisted about his athleticism. The doubts about his explosive should have been quelled by the NBA Draft Combine results, where he showed that he’s sound all-around. Nevertheless, in a league that loves flash and bangs, he might not have enough highlights.

As silly as that may sound, these are humans in the front offices, not robots. The emotional regions of their brain are tied to their memories, and people typically get more excited watching Dybantsa or Wilson cross an opponent up and dunk than watching Boozer push, punish and pivot his way to points. As a result, scouts and executives could lean more towards a more aesthetically pleasing prospect, though everything that glitters isn’t gold.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBMgZbtiig" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2000px; aspect-ratio: 2000/1335;" ></smartframe-embed>

When Graham was first hired by the Bulls, he expressed a belief in a defensive philosophy that emphasized size, length, athleticism and physicality, using the acronym SLAP.

If he plans on sticking by his word, then Acuff won’t be his choice, even if he’s available. Though he does have a 6-foot-7 wingspan, all of his other physical measurements are average. On top of that, he’s just not a very good defender, especially when he’s on-ball. Though his assertive scoring could complement Giddey’s natural passiveness, their defense would be left far too vulnerable.

Not many players fit Bryson Graham’s SLAP better than Caleb Wilson pic.twitter.com/KTss0ccWYW

— Joey (@jaelkhateam) May 12, 2026

Wilson, who came in at approximately 6-foot-9 and 211 pounds (with a 7-foot-0.25 wingspan) during the NBA Draft Combine, does have the SLAP that Graham’s looking for. He’s big, athletic and physical, particularly around the rim. Yet, he’s not really a strong match for their offense because he’s iffy from outside. With a team chalk full of inconsistent 3-point shooters, adding another one to the mix is simply not ideal, especially not with how the game is played today.

Boozer, who was measured and weighed at about 6-foot-8 and 253 pounds would be the best option, if he does happen to fall. He’s an even more fluid athlete than Wilson despite being over 40 pounds heavier. Though he’s an inch shorter, has almost an inch-and-a-half on him in wingspan (7-foot-1.5), allowing that to balance out. Last but not least, he made 39.1% of his 3s in college (138 attempts). However, though his technique is usually sound, his effort and physicality on defense can leave a lot to be desired.

The Goldilocks Prospect — Darryn Peterson

In short, there might not be any perfect prospects for the Bulls. At least, not unless Peterson slides. He wouldn’t be the tallest 2 at just under 6-foot-5 but his 6-foot-10 wingspan is excellent. Though his frequent absences definitely made his freshman campaign a disappointment, he still shot 38.2% from 3. Memorably, he outplayed Dybantsa in their head-to-head on Jan. 31, posting 18 points and three steals while going 6-8 from the field and 3-5 from 3.

It’s even worth noting that Peterson’s ability to play both guard positions allows them to refrain from overvaluing Giddey. In fact, it makes Giddey a viable trade piece for an upgrade on the wing or in the frontcourt, should they need it. For example, the Dallas Mavericks might be willing to move Daniel Gafford for Giddey, a supersized point guard that can help fill the void left by Luka Doncic.

Apr 4, 2026; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Arizona Wildcats guard Brayden Burries (5) goes to the basket against Michigan Wolverines forward Morez Johnson Jr. (21) in the second half during a semifinal of the Final Four of the men’s 2026 NCAA Tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium. Instead, they should turn their attention to another high-upside guard with an effective 3-ball and perimeter defense. There are actually three lottery-level prospects that fit that description outside of Peterson: Arizona freshman Brayden Burries, Illinois freshman Keaton Wagler, and Baylor junior Cameron Carr.

Brayden Burries

ESPN’s 12th-ranked player in the Class of 2025, Burries didn’t disappoint. Across 39 games, the All-Big 12 (1st Team) selection averaged 16.1 points and 1.5 steals per contest, posting .491-.391-.805. He routinely rose to the occasion to help lift the Wildcats to victory, scoring 20+ points in 14 games (including a 23-point performance against Acuff’s Razorbacks in the Sweet 16).

Brayden Burries was impressive in Arizona’s Sweet 16 win over Arkansas.

Burries finished with 23 points on 7-11 shooting in the blowout win. pic.twitter.com/HySOwxcP8g

— B/R Hoops (@brhoops) March 27, 2026

For the Bulls, adding the 6-foot-4 guard wouldn’t be ideal from a size standpoint, though he is taller than impending free agents Anfernee Simons (6-foot-2.25 inches without shoes) and Collin Sexton (6-foot-0.5 without shoes). Still, he’s a sharp and physical ball-handler with a soft touch. If the Bulls want to free up the money they would commit to Simons or Sexton while adding a realistic long-term starter beside Giddey, Burries is a viable option.

Keaton Wagler

Neither Burries nor Carr has enjoyed as much fanfare as Wagler, the young (19) Consensus All-American who burst onto the scene after being ranked outside of the top-100 in high school. A uniquely crafty scorer at 6-foot-5 and 188 pounds, Wagler averaged 17.9 points and 4.2 assists per game in 2025-26 (adding 5.1 rebounds per game to boot). He did this efficiently, shooting 44.5% from the field and 39.7% from 3.

His best game this season came against Purdue on Jan. 24, when he put up an eye-popping 46 points (and four assists) in a game his team won, 88-82. Unconscious from beyond the arc, he went 9-11 from 3-point range, but he also took 13 free-throw attempts (making 11).

Awesome performance by Keaton Wagler today vs Purdue

46 points on 13/17 shooting, 9-11 3PT and 11/13 FT, was effortless when hunting his shots today, carrying Illinois to pull off a major road win and broke the record for most points in a game while visiting Mackey Arena in the… pic.twitter.com/y5Z1yNWEuD

— Arman Jovic (@PDTScouting) January 24, 2026

For the Bulls, Wagler’s outside shooting and instinctive ability to create space off the dribble allows him to function as a complementary piece to Giddey. However, similar to Peterson, Wagler is considered a hybrid guard that can man either position. As a result, he’s another player that may make Giddey expendable to them down the line.

Cameron Carr

Honestly, taking a junior prospect with late-bloomer numbers in the top-five is kind of wild. Sure, the fact that Carr only played four games in 2024-25 changes the perspective a bit, as he essentially lost an entire season due to injury. Him being the son of former NBA wing Chris Carr isn’t necessarily relevant, but NBA fans, scouts and executives do place some level of stock in pedigree. Furthermore, he was one of the true standouts during the 2026 NBA Draft Combine, both in terms of his athletic testing and the scrimmages. Therefore, he has a real shot at being a draft riser.

Baylor’s Cameron Carr went OFF in the NBA draft combine scrimmage:

30 PTS | 9-18 FG | 6-12 3PT | 7 REB pic.twitter.com/nFc3R4H9Bq

— B/R Hoops (@brhoops) May 13, 2026

If the Bulls did take Carr, they’d obviously be banking on the player he was in 2025-26, when he averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 stocks (steals + blocks) per game. Should Carr continue on his current trajectory, the Bulls would be landing a sharpshooting shot-creator and playmaker with undeniable defensive tools.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBj5mDQYnl" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5200px; aspect-ratio: 5200/3570;" ></smartframe-embed>

Pick No. 15 — The Center Of Attention

Given their long-standing desire to upgrade at center, there’s no doubt that there are at least three lottery-caliber big men they’re considering: Michigan junior Aday Mara, Houston freshman Chris Cenac Jr., and Washington freshman Hannes Steinbach.

Many look at Mara due to his blend of length, passing ability and shot-blocking. Yet, for those who followed him closely since his time in Spain, there should be legitimate concern about how quickly he can adjust to NBA competition. It took him until his junior season in college to look remotely like the player he was expected to be when he came stateside. Is it worth it to draft a player top-five who may not look NBA-ready until he’s halfway through his rookie contract?

Cenac, a rebounding machine and floor-spacer, appears to be a more worthwhile option. Not only does he have an elite combination of size (6-foot-10, 240 pounds, 7-foot-5 wingspan) and lateral agility, he’s almost two full years younger than Mara. For a team that’s openly imitating a rebuild, that’s significant. Notably, where Mara only played 25+ minutes in nine regular season games in 2025-26, Cenac did so in 18, which speaks to the difference in their physical conditioning.

Steinbach is a double-double factory with defensive upside and can theoretically stretch the floor. He’s about the same size as Cenac (though about eight pounds heavier) and much more athletic than Mara. To that point, while Mara posted a combine-low 28.0-inch max vertical, Steinbach’s max vertical was 35.5 inches, which was tied with various guards. Perhaps just as importantly, he played 34.6 minutes per game in college, leaving no concerns about his conditioning.

For the Bulls, either Cenac or Steinbach would be a solid choice, though Cenac appears to have a higher defensive ceiling.

© David Banks-Imagn Images

For the Chicago Bulls, the most important decision they’ll make the entire summer is who they take with the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
