The lottery, which will be held at 3 PM EST at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Ill., has some great expectations for Miami as they enter the draft lottery with a 4.8% chance of making the top four picks. Now Sunday could be a turning page for the franchise, changing their luck if all goes well, or going down further if it doesn’t.

What’s At Stake For The Miami Heat At The 2026 NBA Draft Lottery

The ongoing projection for the Heat has them selecting with the 13th overall pick, which has the possibility of jumping into the top four. That opens their doors to a good variety of choices like Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and others. The team is already left with a sour taste in their mouths after their tragic defeat to the Charlotte Hornets and missing the playoffs for the first time in this decade. With a recent history of questionable performances and failures, Miami needs lots of luck to prosper.

Heat’s NBA Draft Lottery Odds

The 13th seed projection of the Heat has a 4.8% chance of making it into the top four, but it is also followed by the Charlotte Hornets, who have recently beaten them out of the playoffs and have marginally better odds. And chances are that they might not jump into the top four. Out of their 11 appearances in the lottery, they have famously moved down around six to seven times, notably in 1989, 1991, 2008, and others. However, this time, there is a silver lining in a 1% possibility of having the first overall pick.

The draft is highly competitive with better performers already claiming the top spots in prediction. The possibility is bleak, but luck could always flip the script, and Miami could jump into the top four.

Could Lottery Day bring In The Elite Catches?

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQ86PO0S9c" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3900px; aspect-ratio: 3900/2700;" ></smartframe-embed>

Heat president Pat Riley is determined to create a strong team around All-Star Bam Adebayo, and Antetokounmpo seems just the man for the job. The Greek-Nigerian pro is on the trade radar of all teams that are looking to make valuable additions, and especially Miami, who have been chasing him for a while now. Antetokounmpo has the talent to pull Miami out of the ditch they have found themselves in lately. Adebayo is in need of another defender to share the load with him while he is playing center.

Other than Antetokounmpo, a bunch of other players and free agents are also being mentioned as targets for Miami in their pursuit of making aggressive changes in the offseason. Rumor has it that Los Angeles forward Kawhi Leonard, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, and Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson are the most sought-after. Some other players from the Miami’s roster, like Trevor Keels, Andrew Wiggins, and Keshad Johnson, are dangling on the verge of free agency. Their future with the franchise will soon unravel early this summer, but if the team wisely fills up with better alternatives this Sunday, then it will be interesting to see who they choose to retain for next season.

Who Will Represent The franchise At The NBA Draft lottery?

This year, the team will be represented by Heat vice president, and Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning. This will mark the fourth consecutive time Mourning will represent the team at the NBA Draft Lottery, which is like a second home for the veteran who has played for the team in 11 seasons. At the backend, he will be helped by Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon.

While they have lots of changes to make in their current regime, the lottery luck on Sunday will definitely influence those and other major decisions for Miami and their prosperity in the next season.

Featured Image: David Banks-Imagn Images

The 2026 NBA Draft Lottery is here and for the Miami Heat, this is the day of make-or-break.
