The Timberwolves, who trailed by 14 points after the first quarter, outscored the Nuggets 25-15 over the last 11 minutes to secure the victory. The Wolves shot 50% from the field in the final stanza and held the Nuggets to 38.1% shooting. They also won the rebound battle in the fourth, 16-9. Donte DeVincenzo, Julius Randle, and Naz Reid combined for 19 of the Wolves’ 29 fourth-quarter points.

“I feel like we had the game in hand,” Nuggets Jamal Murray said after the game, “and then we just didn’t make our shots.”

Overall, Minnesota outshot Denver 48%-to-43% in Game 2 with both teams shooting it well from deep. The Timberwolves made four more free throws and won the rebound battle 49-43 (9-5 offensive). Also, the Wolves’ bench outscored the Nuggets’ reserves 33-23.

Anthony Edwards had a nice bounce-back game and led the way for Minnesota with 30 points, on 10 of 25 shooting, and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes. It was the 24-year-old’s sixth career playoff double-double. Randle almost had a double-double with 24 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, though he was much more efficient than Edwards. DiVincenzo added 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists to lead four others in double-figures.

Jamal Murray has been fantastic for the Nuggets, tallying 30 points and seven assists in each of the first two games. Likewise, Nikola Jokic had another strong game with 24 points and 15 rebounds, to lead three others in double figures.

Jaden McDaniels had some pointed comments about what worked for the Timberwolves offensively in Game 2: “Go at Jokic, Jamal, all the bad defenders. The Nuggets lead the all-time matchup 102-71, though the Timberwolves have won 10 of the 19 playoff contests. The Wolves have won two of their three playoff series, winning in 2024, though the Nuggets knocked them out in 2023.

Denver averages 115 points on 43.9% shooting from the field and 12.5 threes at a 32.5% clip in the series. The Nuggets, who averaged 31.5 free throws a game in the series (84.1%), grabbed 45 rebounds (6.5 offensive) and dished out 27.5 assists while committing 11.5 turnovers a game. They average 16.0 points off turnovers, 20.0 second chance points, and 14.0 fastbreak points.

David Adelman has essentially used a seven-man rotation in the first two games. And all seven are producing with Murray leading the way with 30.0 points, 7.0 assists, and 6.0 rebounds, though he is shooting just 38.3/27.3/100. Jokic has one double-double and a triple-double, compiling 24.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 9.5 assists. Christian Braun, Aaron Gordon, and Tim Hardaway Jr. are all averaging double figures and playing well.

Timberwolves

Minnesota averages 112 points on 46.9% from the field with 12.5 threes at a 36.8% clip in the two games. The Timberwolves average 24.5 free throws a game (67.3%), 46 rebounds (8 offensive), 25.5 assists, and 12.5 turnovers. They average 17.0 points off turnovers, 10.0 second chance points, and 14.0 fastbreak points.

Chris Finch has stretched out his rotation a little bit more than Adelman has. Still, seven Wolves players are averaging 22 minutes a contest, though they have been less efficient than the Nuggets’ top seven.

Edwards averages 26.0 points, 9.5 boards, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 blocks with shooting splits of 38.6/25.0/81.3. Randle averages 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists with shooting splits of 46.7/28.6/83.3. Jaden McDaniels contributes 15.0 points and 5.0 boards, though it is DiVincenzo and Ayo Dosunmu who are playing really good basketball.

© Ron Chenoy, Imagn Images

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBMyYV6EUt" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3072px; aspect-ratio: 3072/2048;" ></smartframe-embed>

Game 3 Odds

Spread: Nuggets -2.5

Over/Under: 233.5

Money Line: Nuggets: -126, Timberwolves +108

Injury Report

Nuggets

Aaron Gordon (Probable): Left calf tightness

Peyton Watson (Out): Right hamstring tightness

Godon is expected to suit up tonight. The Joker has played 40 minutes in each of the first two games, posting at least 25 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists in each contest. He has been dominant against the Wolves this year, averaging 35.8 points, 15.0 rebounds, and 11.3 assists during the regular season. Additionally, the big Serbian has recorded 72 double-doubles and 22 triple-doubles in 92 career playoff games.

Jamal Murray

Murray is also a strong player with a usage percentage of 31.9 through the first two games. Murray shot the ball much better in Game 2 and has posted 30 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in each postseason contest. Like Jokic, Murray has been fantastic against the Wolves this year, averaging 31.3 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.

Tim Hardaway Jr.

Hardaway Jr. is a value play here. Hardaway Jr. has the third-highest usage percentage (17.9%). He has totaled 23 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one block while making 6 of 15 from the field, 4 of 6 from the 3-point line, and 7 of 10 from the free throw line. He has been very good against the Wolves this season, averaging 19.8 points with shooting splits of 61/55.6/82.4 in the regular season.

Anthony Edwards

Edwards is obviously the top play for the Wolves. While the 24-year-old has struggled shooting the ball in the series, he has a usage percentage over 30 and has been very good on the boards, and has added defensive points. He has been exceptional against the Nuggets this year, averaging 30.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.4 assists during the regular season. However, he hasn’t shot it well from deep against them at all this year.

DFS Plays Continued

Julius Randle

Randle has been efficient against the Nuggets this season. He averaged 24.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.0 assists with shooting splits of 51.5/26.3/85.2. However, foul trouble is a concern, as he has been whistled for 22 fouls in six games versus the Nuggets this year.

Donte DiVincenzo

DiVincenzo has played well in the first two games of the series, averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals. He also knocks down 4.0 threes with shooting splits of 55.6/57.1/00.0. While consistency is a concern, he has been productive after two days off this season.

Ayo Dosunmu

Dosunmu is another value play. Dosunmu, who has a good usage percentage this postseason, has totaled 23 points, six assists, four rebounds, and one steal in 50 minutes over the two games. He has played well against the Nuggets this season, averaging 2.0 treys with shooting splits of 50/44.4/1.000 in the series.

Naz Reid

Reid has been inconsistent in the two games. But he has been productive against the Nuggets this year. So, he is always a consideration as a value play.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBTvDt8zo1" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3072px; aspect-ratio: 3072/2048;" ></smartframe-embed>

Prediction

Game 3 is critically important in this series. Obviously, the winner gains control of the series. In the three previous playoff matchups between the teams, the squad that won Game 3 went on to win the series twice. However, this is the first time the Wolves and Nuggets have been tied after two games.

The series has been evenly matched in the two games. While the Wolves have shot the ball better than the Nuggets, Denver has dominated in second-chance points and at the free-throw line. The Nuggets have outscored the Wolves 40-20 in second-chance points over the first two games of the series. They have also made two more free throws per game than the Wolves have attempted (26.5 to 24.5). Although the Wolves can cut into that deficit, I don’t believe they can erase the Nuggets’ advantage.

Furthermore, I have the Nuggets as 3-7.5-point favorites. Moreover, Murray and Jokic have been outstanding against the Wolves in their six matchups. Additionally, I like it over here as well.

Bets

Nuggets -2.5

Lean Over 233.5 points.

Anthony Edwards (-120): Over 5.5 Rebounds

Nikola Jokic Over 50 Points+ Rebounds +Assists

The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves split their first two games.
