While several summer decisions have become the norm for the Warriors, the Dubs are coming off their worst season in six years, and the roster has gotten older in recent years. The Warriors project to have at least six open spots on the 15-man roster and may need a coach.

Latest News On Steve Kerr, Draymond Green and Al Horford

Golden State saw its season come to an end on Friday after falling to the Phoenix Suns in the final Western Conference Play-In game. The Warriors went 37-45 this season, marking their worst season since 2019-20. It is also the fourth time in the last seven seasons that the Warriors have not reached the postseason.

The Warriors currently have nine under contract for next season with salaries totaling $181.4 million. As a result, the Warriors project to be $12.4 million below the league’s cap. Draymond Green ($27.6 million), Al Horford ($5.9 million), and De’Anthony Melton ($3.4 million) all have player options.

Draymond Green Talks Future

Green figures to exercise his option, though that doesn’t mean he will be in a Dubs uniform. The 36-year-old forward is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, averaging 8.4 points along with 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 68 games. He compiled shooting splits of 41.8/32.6/70.2 and wasn’t an NBA All-Defensive selection for the second time in three years.

“I hope it’s not the end… I have a player option coming up this summer, and I don’t know what’s going to happen, Green said on his show via YouTube. “This year was a little bit different for me, even going through the trade talks at the deadline. Not quite sure whether I’ll get traded. I’ve never gone through that before…. Going into the summer, I don’t know. We’ll see. If he decides to return, ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne and Anthony Slater said that Warriors owner Joe Lacob will want a few things.

Do The Warriors Want Kerr To Return?

“More than anything, team sources said, Lacob will want to hear Kerr express a hunger to continue executing the nitty-gritty details of the daily job, not a reluctant acceptance that he should continue coaching purely out of loyalty to Green and Curry and the sentimentality of riding out this era, per ESPN. “That’s why, if Kerr decides he wants to return, there’s a desire from management for him to sign a multiyear deal, team sources said, instead of setting up a last dance farewell tour that would feel more about emotion and nostalgia than wins.”

Kerr has a lot of support among Warriors players, with Curry, Green, and Gui Santos being among the most ardent. However, Green said that he doesn’t believe Kerr will return, and Joe Crowley of the Chicago Sun-Times dropped a nugget late last night.

“Talked to someone very close to Steve Kerr and he said the coach has known for weeks he was done,” Crowley tweeted. “We’ll see. As a result of his performance post-all-star break, Podziemski produced a career year with averages of 13.8 points and 1.8 threes with shooting splits of 45.5/37.1/79.7. He added 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals while playing all 82 games.

Podziemski is a good scorer and rebounder who is improving as a playmaker.
