The defending champion Thunder are heading into the playoffs as the favorites to repeat. Despite many injuries this season<\/a>, Oklahoma City remains at the top of the NBA world. However, some are skeptical of whether they can retain the same pace from last year’s title run. In fact, one of their star players may not be at full strength. With plenty of absences, many are wondering if Jalen Williams<\/a>‘ injury may prevent him from having elite postseason performances.<\/p>\n

J-Dub missed 49 games in 2025-26. After recovering from offseason wrist surgery, he made his season debut in November before injuring his hamstring in January — the first of two strains<\/a> before the All-Star break. Williams then came back in late March, and while he showed some glimpses of his All-NBA self, he also struggled at times.<\/p>\n

Will Jalen Williams’ Injury Affect His Playoff Performance?<\/h2>\n

That being said, J-Dub still has a lot to work out in his game. His last six appearances were a mixed bag, but definitely more on the good side. There’s more to expect from the star guard as OKC steps into another playoff run. After all, they wouldn’t have won their first title without him, and they certainly won’t repeat with him playing inconsistently.<\/p>\n

Williams’ Playoff Inconsistency<\/h3>\n

Consistency has been a key issue for Williams in the postseason. Sure, he was superb in the first round against Memphis, but a bit average against Denver. We saw him struggling from time to time, even having three of his worst shooting games<\/a> in that series. But just as OKC never lost consecutive playoff games<\/a>, Williams also showed he could bounce back.<\/p>\n

In that series, there were plenty of criticisms thrown his way. And yet on the biggest stage, J-Dub was rocking the rim and scoring buckets<\/a>. The same can be said in the NBA Finals, where he went off for 40 points in Game 5.<\/p>\n
