The Lakers decided to keep veteran <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/artesro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Metta World Peace<\/a><\/strong> and power forward <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robinth01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Robinson<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some have questioned the decision to keep the older World Peace over the younger Brown. World Peace bring an obvious veteran presence; although just last week, World Peace was rumored to be staying with the Lakers as an assistant coach. One of the more surprising moves occurred on Monday, with\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jianlyi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yi Jianlian<\/a><\/strong> being waived. The <strong>Chinese<\/strong> power forward seemed to on his way to securing a roster spot, but he was ultimately released. Reports suggest Jianlian asked to be released after evaluating his situation with the team.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lakers 15-Man Roster Finalized<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>So with the 15-man roster now set, the outlook in <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/10\/19\/nba-pacific-division-preview\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles<\/a> is slightly clearer. This season point guard <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/russeda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">D&#8217;Angelo Russell<\/a><\/strong> will see his role increase. Guard <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Clarkson<\/a><\/strong> appears to have fitted into the role of sixth-man well. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willilo02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lou Williams<\/a><\/strong> will start in Clarkson&#8217;s place.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being drafted second overall, rookie <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/ingrabr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Ingram<\/a><\/strong> will have to work for his starting place. Veteran <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/denglu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luol Deng<\/a><\/strong> is set to play whilst Ingram adjusts to life in the <strong>NBA<\/strong>. Power forward <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/randlju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julius Randle<\/a><\/strong> is developing slowly, but like Russell, Randle should see his minutes increase this season.<\/p>\n<p>This off-season the Lakers signed center <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mozgoti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Timofey Mozgov<\/a><\/strong>. Mozgov has been struggling with a tailbone injury this pre-season, but he is expected to start in a<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/09\/28\/new-look-lakers-competitive-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> new look<\/a> Lakers team.<\/p>\n<p>New head coach <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/waltolu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Walton<\/a><\/strong> is set for his first season as an NBA head coach. Walton isn&#8217;t expected to work miracles over night, but this Lakers team hopes to show signs of improvement and growth during the 2016-17 season. The Lakers bench looks a lot stronger than last season, with Clarkson, Ingram and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nancela02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Nance Jr<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0highlighting a young bench unit.<\/p>\n<p>This roster looks promising and fresh. Expect the Lakers to play much better <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/09\/22\/keys-los-angeles-lakers-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lakers Depth Chart<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Point Guards<\/strong> &#8211; D&#8217;Angelo Russell (Starter), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huertma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcelo Huertas<\/a><\/strong> (Bench), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caldejo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Calderon<\/a><\/strong> (Bench\/Reserve)<\/p>\n<p>Russell will be a key player for the Lakers this season. Huertas and Calderon are both valuable veterans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shooting Guards<\/strong> &#8211; Lou Williams (Starter), Jordan Clarkson (Sixth Man)<\/p>\n<p>Expect Williams and Clarkson to both play a big role for the Lakers this season. Clarkson is a dark horse for the NBA <strong>Sixth Man of the Year<\/strong> award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Small Forward<\/strong> &#8211; Luol Deng (Starter), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/10\/06\/brandon-ingram-coming-off-the-bench\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Ingram<\/a> (Bench), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Young<\/a><\/strong> (Bench), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/09\/21\/los-angeles-lakers-sign-metta-world-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Metta World Peace<\/a><\/strong> (Reserve)<\/p>\n<p>Deng is a reliable starter, but it&#8217;s just a matter of time before Ingram takes over. Young appears to have escaped the abyss. World Peace is a valuable veteran to have around.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Power Forward<\/strong> &#8211; Julius Randle (Starter), Larry Nance Jr. (Bench), Thomas Robinson (Bench\/Reserve)<\/p>\n<p>Randle is getting better every season, and this season should be no different. Nance brings invaluable hustle to this young team. Robinson will look to finally find a home, as the Lakers are his sixth team in five seasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Center<\/strong> &#8211; Timofey Mozgov (Starter), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/blackta01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tarik Black<\/a><\/strong> (Bench), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/z\/zubaciv01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ivica Zubac<\/a><\/strong> (Reserve)<\/p>\n<p>Mozgov was a big off-season acquisition. Signing a 4-year $64 million deal means pressure will be heaped on Mozgov to play well. Black was also re-signed this off-season and will be a key rotation player this season. Zubac, this year&#8217;s second round draft pick, will likely spend time playing in the <strong>NBA D-League<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Lakers begin the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/10\/20\/coast-2-coast-podcast-episode-7-pacific-division-preview-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new season<\/a> with a home game against the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/category\/rockets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Rockets<\/a><\/strong> on Wednesday.
