The franchise’s new face, Trae Young, only played five games for Washington before reinjuring his quadriceps. Young’s co-star, Anthony Davis, has yet to debut for the Wizards and may have to wait until the 2026-27 season. Aside from them, Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Tre Johnson, and Cam Whitmore have all had injuries sideline them for multiple games, with Whitmore getting the worst of it.

Now, a new name joins the list: Kyshawn George. The Wizards have officially stated that the sophomore forward has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury. While his season was cut short, the forward has plenty to be happy about.

Wizards Sophomore To Miss Rest Of Season With Elbow Injury

George sustained a Grade 2 ulnar collateral ligament tear in his left elbow at the beginning of March against the Houston Rockets. The forward has not played since, and the Wizards are treating his injury very conservatively. Despite an unfortunate situation, George shouldn’t hang his head. The Miami product had an exceptional season and has no doubt cemented himself as a cornerstone of Washington’s young core.

KYSHAWN GEORGE INJURY UPDATE pic.twitter.com/ifXMWv6DPY

— Wizards PR (@WizPRStats) April 2, 2026

George’s Season

George’s end is nothing short of upsetting. The 22-year-old had been dominating this season, blowing expectations out of the water by a large margin. Injuries aside, George’s 48 games showcased the potential he possesses. His all-around offensive skill set, combined with his defensive capabilities, was put on full display in just about every game he appeared in.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQ9eXKe391" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3900px; aspect-ratio: 3900/2700;" ></smartframe-embed>

Over the course of the season, George averaged 14.8 points, 4.5 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in 29 minutes of playing time. Across every statistical category, George made noticeable improvements. His efficiency also made a sizable leap. His field goal percentage jumped six percent from his rookie year, on four more shots, while his three-point percentage saw a similar boost.

George’s rise is just one of the many made by Washington players this season. His production put the league on notice, and he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves. The sophomore’s improvement cements him as the true steal of the 2024 NBA Draft, and he’ll look to get back to full health to help the new-look Wizards make a deep playoff run next season.

What To Expect Moving Forward

With George being officially out and Washington in full tank mode, expect two things: losing and fluctuating minutes. Washington will continue tanking, all in an effort to secure their position at the bottom of the league standings. Additionally, the healthy Wizards will keep receiving big minutes, which should continue to give everyone a chance to prove they deserve a roster spot next season.

Players like Will Riley and Justin Champagnie will continue to take a majority of George’s minutes. Riley has been showcasing his talent, proving he was an NBA-caliber scorer coming out of Illinois, while Champagnie’s all-around play has become a staple of Washington’s deep rotation. While these two stand to benefit the most, others like Coulibaly and Anthony Gill could see small boosts to their playing time with their recent success.

© Dale Zanine-Imagn Images

The Washington Wizards have had several notable injuries this season, limiting their success throughout another tanking campaign.
