While hardly anyone can predict what <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will do this summer, the Lakers reportedly hope to bring back other core players who&#8217;ve been instrumental to their success this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Lakers Interested in Re-Signing 4 Key Players This Summer<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/48323320\/next-lebron-nba-insiders-lakers-warriors-cavs-free-agency-options\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESPN\u2019s Dave McMenamin and Tim Bontemps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Lakers want to re-sign <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/LAL\/2026.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Reaves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hayesja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jaxson Hayes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kennalu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke Kennard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in free agency, keeping a group that\u2019s propelled LA to a 49-26 record and a potential top-three finish in the West. The two added that the Lakers \u201cwill have close to $50 million in projected cap space this summer\u201d if <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aytonde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deandre Ayton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smartma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcus Smart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pick up their respective player options, with James and Hachimura\u2019s salaries coming off the books.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regardless of what happens in this year\u2019s postseason, the four standouts have ironclad cases to come back in free agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Austin Reaves<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Widely considered the perfect backcourt partner for <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Reaves\u2019 next contract with LA seems more like a \u201cwhen, not if\u201d at this point. Despite being sidelined with multiple calf strains this season, Reaves has continued to put up star-level numbers in his fifth year. In 49 games (43 starts), he has averaged 23.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.1 steals, all on 49% shooting from the field and 36% from deep. The fan-favorite who has <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.silverscreenandroll.com\/2025\/6\/16\/24450251\/lakers-austin-reaves-contract-extension-nba-offseason-luka-doncic\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desired to be a \u201cLaker for life\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may keep that dream alive this summer, when he\u2019s eligible for a five-year max contract worth up to $241 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reaves\u2019 journey with the Lakers has come straight out of Hollywood, and it\u2019s only right that LA renews it for another five seasons at least.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Luke Kennard<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 800px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBts3LtCDb\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 800px; aspect-ratio: 4610\/3074;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s only been a Laker for less than two months, and he already <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask?q=lakers+players+total+three-pointers+off+the+bench+this+season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leads the team in made threes off the bench<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Luke Kennard has ignited the Lakers\u2019 offense since his arrival, and his 19-point outing against the Wizards on Monday further underscored his impact. In 25 games with LA, Kennard has averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 49.1% from deep. Hayes\u2019 19 points on perfect 8-8 shooting was the latest in an <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheHoopCentral\/status\/2038835803556896949\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">impressive three-game stretch for him<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The seventh-year forward enjoyed a starting role over the last couple of seasons. But due to a calf injury and inconsistent defense (among other factors), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/01\/26\/lakers-forward-opens-up-about-recent-role-change\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redick benched him in early January<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the results have paid off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 25 games with the second unit since Jan. 13, Hachimura has averaged 8.6 points and 2.6 rebounds on 46% shooting from the field and 39.8% from three. Although the averages have dwindled from his days as a starter, he\u2019s remained a relatively efficient scorer who doesn\u2019t have to worry about being the fourth option. Hachimura may no longer be an $18 million-per-year player.
