The 6-4 guard was absolutely fabulous on both ends of the floor in the 88-76 setback to the Bulldogs, tallying 23 points on 9 of 15 shooting from the field, including 4 of 8 from deep. He added four rebounds (two offensive), one assist, one steal, and a block in 34 minutes.

Fiegen, who will have one season of eligibility left, turned in the best season of his career in 2025-26. More importantly, Fiegen showed tremendous growth — only as a shooter — but as a playmaker and rebounder.

Fiegen averaged 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 26 minutes this past season. He knocked down 2.3 threes, on 5.5 attempts, while compiling shooting splits of 54.6/41.4/77.2. He scored in double figures 22 times of his 24 appearances, with six contests of at least 20 points and two 30-point efforts. Additionally, an All-Ivy League first team selection pulled down double-digit rebounds once.

According to Joe Tipton of On3, Fiegen has been in contact with a handful of programs. However, given it’s early in the process, he could draw more interest.

“A handful of programs are already in pursuit and gaining traction, including Northwestern, DePaul, Ohio State, Indiana, Villanova, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt, according to his agents German Srulovich and Daniel Poneman of WEAVE,” Tipton said. “Fiegen plans to take two to three visits following the National Championship game, with a decision coming soon after.”

© Dale Young, Imagn Images

<smartframe-embed customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB4JczNts3" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4131px; aspect-ratio: 1.5 / 1; --canvas-wedge-error-size: 4131; --sf-original-width: 4131; --sf-original-height: 2754; --sf-is-portrait: 0; --sf-is-landscape: 1;" preview-mode="" tabindex="0"></smartframe-embed>

Who Is Jake Fiegen?

Fiegen has played all three seasons of his career at Cornell, improving in each season. The Winnetka (Ill.) entered the Ithaca campus as a lightly regarded prospect in 2023 despite being a candidate for Illinois Mr. Basketball.

While Fiegen finally realized his potential this year, he has been a rotational player for the Big Red since stepping on campus. However, he really developed into a high-usage player and sharpshooter this season.

Fiegen is known for his shooting off the catch with deep range. He is also an efficient slasher who finishes well at the rim — converting 70% of those attempts this year — and who knows how to control his body and be physical on the glass, as he isn’t an elite athlete.

Fiegen does have a few areas to work on this summer. He does have to improve as a creator against stronger, bigger guards, as his shooting percentage has dropped a little against top competition this year. However, what he struggles with the most against “strong teams” is getting to the free-throw line.

Fiegen also has to improve defensively. His biggest weakness is his lack of lateral quickness, which leads to fouls.

Fiegen is seen as a high-major player who projects to be a major rotational player — and potential starter — wherever he lands. Teams value his shooting, frame, and scoring efficiency.

Fiegen is currently ranked among the top 10 players in the transfer portal by On3 and 247Sports. He is also considered a top-5 shooting guard, behind Stefan Vaaks (Providence), Tyler Lundblade (Belmont), and Corey Hadnot (Purdue Fort Wayne). The Wildcats had posted three consecutive losses before this past year. They are now 209-209 with three NCAA Tournament berths since Chris Collins was hired before the 2013-14 campaign.

Northwestern certainly needs to improve its offense and could use some perimeter shooters. This past season, the Wildcats were 133rhas offensive efficiency as they were just 117th (46.1%) in field goal percentage. Holtmann is 30-36, though still well below .500 in Big East play (12-28).

DePaul had a top-100 defense but was just 302nd offensively. The Blue Demons rank in the bottom 100 in shooting percentage (43.5%) and the bottom third nationally in 3-pointers (7.2) and 3-point percentage (32.5%).
