But after a 115-102 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in their last outing, Charlotte knows that home comfort alone will not be enough. They have to earn it. At 34-34, sitting 10th in the East, the margin for error is razor thin.

The Hornets have actually played better on the road this season than at home, a fact that has not gone unnoticed inside the locker room. Second-year head coach Charles Lee was direct about it after the game against San Antonio Spurs (h/t r/CharlotteHornets on X), saying, “We’ve actually played really well on the road, and our record might say differently at home. Our fans are amazing. We will feed off of that, but we also have to make sure that we bring a level of focus and readiness on this homestand.”

The Schedule

The seven opponents during this stretch are as follows: Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Boston Celtics.

On paper, five of those are very winnable. Memphis is 23-44, Sacramento is 18-51, and Philadelphia is without Tyrese Maxey. Orlando and Miami are both beatable at home, especially with the Spectrum Center crowd behind the Hornets.

The Knicks and Celtics at the back end are a different story. New York has had Charlotte’s number this season and Boston is playing some of the best basketball in the East right now. Realistically, five wins from this homestand keeps Charlotte firmly in the play-in conversation.

The Players Who Need to Step Up

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBwpWaiyxf" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 1140px; aspect-ratio: 1140/880;" ></smartframe-embed>
Brandon Miller is the name to watch across this entire Hornets homestand. He averages 20.4 points per game and is Charlotte’s most important offensive weapon when he’s on his game, but managed just six points in 33 minutes against San Antonio Spurs while dealing with a sore right wrist. The rest period before tonight’s game should help, and getting him back to full sharpness early in the homestand could set the tone for everything that follows.

<smartframe-embed customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBwpWaiyxf" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 1140px; aspect-ratio: 1.29545 / 1; --canvas-wedge-error-size: 1140; --sf-original-width: 1140; --sf-original-height: 880; --sf-is-portrait: 0; --sf-is-landscape: 1;" preview-mode="" tabindex="0"></smartframe-embed>

Kon Knueppel has been the most consistent performer on this team for quite some time. The rookie dropped 27 points against Miami in the previous meeting on March 6 then 20 against Spurs, even in defeat. His 3-point shooting and off-ball movement give Charlotte a dimension that is genuinely hard to plan for. If he keeps shooting the way he has been, he will be the difference-maker in close games.

LaMelo Ball needs to be the leader this team requires. He has shown flashes of brilliance all season but has been inconsistent in the biggest moments. With Coby White providing real energy and production since joining from Chicago, Ball has the support around him to thrive. Now he needs to lead. As White put it ahead of tonight (h/t r/CharlotteHornets on X): “Sometimes you don’t get these types of things in the schedule in terms of being at home so long. We got to take full advantage of it and come out ready to compete.”

How Many Wins Do the Hornets Need?

Five wins from this Charlotte homestand should be the absolute minimum target. That would push them 39-36 heading into the final stretch, a record that makes the play-in a near certainty.

The Grizzlies, Kings, and 76ers should all be taken care of at home. The battles against the Heat tonight and the Magic later this week will test the Hornets’ mental toughness after losing to the Spurs. Win both of those and the momentum could carry them through the tougher tests against the Knicks and Celtics at the backend of the run.

This is the Moment

Seven games. Spectrum Center. A fanbase ready to show up. This is the defining stretch of the Hornets’ season.

Charlotte has already proven they can beat anybody when they are focused. They beat Boston by 29 on the road. At one point, they went on a 17-3 stretch. The talent is not the question.

Instead, it’s whether this team is disciplined enough, hungry enough, and consistent enough to make the most of the gift the schedule has handed them. Starting tonight against Miami, the answer begins to take shape.

© Sam Sharpe-Imagn Images

The Charlotte Hornets homestand that begins tonight against the Miami Heat could not have come at a better time, or at a more dangerous one.
