With one first-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and several glaring needs to address, here\u2019s an overview of four prospects the Los Angeles Lakers could consider.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>2026 NBA Draft: 4 March Madness Bigs That Fit The Lakers\u2019 Needs<\/h2>\n<h3>Lakers\u2019 Needs Ahead of 2026 NBA Draft<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with roughly 15 games remaining in the regular season (ahead of what\u2019s hopefully a deep playoff run), the Lakers\u2019 biggest needs are undeniably up front. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aytonde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deandre Ayton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> appears to have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/03\/16\/lakers-deandre-ayton-stepping-up-before-crucial-stretch\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">turned a corner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> amid a season of inconsistency. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hayesja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jaxson Hayes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has made a positive impact as the primary backup five. And <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/klebima01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maxi Kleber<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has surprised many with his decent spot minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, Hayes and Kleber are set to enter free agency while Ayton has an $8 million player option at the end of this season, meaning the team\u2019s depth in the middle could very well change again. Combine that with the uncertain future of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the pending free agency of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the Lakers could target prospects at the four in addition to the five.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all that in mind, the following four prospects have all flashed first-round potential and could play key roles toward their teams\u2019 respective title pursuits.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Patrick Ngongba II &#8211; 6\u201911\u201d, C, Duke<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potentially returning for March Madness after missing the ACC Tournament with foot soreness, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/patrick-ngongba-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patrick Ngongba II<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/03\/11\/patrick-ngongba-ii-2026-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sturdy, defensive-minded big<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a growing offensive game. He protects the paint well with an average of 1.1 blocks per game, and his reported 7\u20194\u201d wingspan allows him to disrupt passing lanes and crash the glass early and often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offensively, Ngongba is an efficient interior scorer (66.4% 2PT) who gets buckets from the post and off of pick-and-rolls. He\u2019s also an intriguing playmaker (1.9 APG) who makes precise reads from the perimeter and in high-low situations. He has a lot to work on in regards to his shooting, mobility and overall health, but the Lakers could conceivably take a flier on yet another Blue Devil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Duke Blue Devils big man Patrick Ngongba II Mid-Season Highlights | 2026 NBA Draft\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5KMdrJFvPq0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Morez Johnson Jr. &#8211; 6\u20199\u201d, PF\/C, Michigan<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michigan\u2019s <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/morez-johnson-jr-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morez Johnson Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has stepped up for the Wolverines, having averaged 13.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 blocks across 33 games. The sophomore forward-center has shot nearly 63% from the field, 39% from three (11-of-28) and 78% from the free-throw line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An athletic big man with a high motor, elite defense and decent shooting, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/03\/13\/2026-nba-mock-draft-4-0-pre-march-madness-edition\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johnson Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> checks the boxes for what the Lakers need up front. His <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/draft\/newsfeed\/nba-draft-scouting-report-michigan-forward-morez-johnson-jr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shot-blocking and switchability<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be particularly useful for coach JJ Redick, who\u2019s employed a variety of strategies and lineups to turn the team\u2019s defense around, including small-ball out of necessity. He still has room to grow offensively as a floor spacer and playmaker, but the tools and potential are all there to take this year\u2019s class by surprise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michigan Wolverines big Morez Johnson Jr. Mid-Season Highlights | 2026 NBA Draft\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z5j27erxpTo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Chris Cenac Jr. &#8211; 6\u201911\u201d, PF\/C, Houston<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 800px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBZQI8NCJ4\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5200px; aspect-ratio: 5200\/4076;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Houston forward <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/chris-cenac-jr-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Cenac Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> holds plenty of upside as a 19-year-old freshman, something the Lakers could certainly capitalize on as they prepare for the next era. Cenac has averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field, 34% from three and 56% from the free-throw line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.babcockhoops.com\/post\/2026-nba-draft-chris-cenac-jr-scouting-report\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mobile and versatile big<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on both ends of the floor, Cenac has drawn attention for his athleticism, floor spacing and defense. His rim-running has some believing he could be a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25405065-new-2026-nba-mock-draft-fresh-lottery-simulation\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prime pick-and-roll partner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alongside <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while his shot blocking and perimeter shooting make him a rare potential 3-and-D threat for his size. His poor free-throw shooting, limited three-point volume (2.5 per game) and low playmaking (0.8 APG) are causes for concern, but Cenac deserves to be considered as a solid fit for the purple and gold.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Houston&#039;s Chris Cenac Jr. Midseason Highlights | 2025-26 Big 12 Men&#039;s Basketball\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GW1uRaA4YoQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Motiejus Krivas &#8211; 7\u20192\u201d, C, Arizona<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet another defense-first big with size and strength to boot, Arizona\u2019s <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/motiejus-krivas-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motiejus Krivas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one of the most intriguing center prospects in the class and someone the Lakers should monitor. At 7\u20192\u201d and 260 pounds, the junior has averaged 10.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.0 assists while shooting 58% from the field, 33% from deep and 78% from the charity stripe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Krivas <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/2026-nba-mock-draft-byu-aj-dybantsa-kansas-darryn-peterson-duke-cameron-boozer\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thrives in drop coverage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and boasts a reported <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nbadraft.net\/players\/motiejus-krivas\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7\u20196\u201d wingspan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that makes him an immediate deterrent at the rim, with size and speed to challenge opponents in the paint. While defending without fouling remains an issue for him (90 fouls vs. 86 \u201cstocks\u201d\u201462 blocks, 24 steals), Krivas has the tools that could translate well to the next level. Offensively, he has a softer touch at the rim\u2014preferring jump hooks to jams\u2014but he uses his size to his advantage as a back-to-the-basket center.
