With another five games coming against a series of contenders, the former No. 1 pick\u2019s play will be vital going forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Lakers&#8217; Deandre Ayton Stepping Up Before Crucial Stretch<\/h2>\n<h3>Ayton\u2019s Energy and Focus Paying Dividends for LA<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the Lakers ride the momentum of a five-game winning streak, Ayton has made his presence felt throughout the process, only missing a Mar. 6 win over the Pacers due to a knee injury. It started with a modest matchup against the New York Knicks (six points, four rebounds), where head coach <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.silverscreenandroll.com\/lakers-news\/110343\/jj-redick-deandre-ayton-lakers-knicks-recap-stats?utm_campaign=dhtwitter&amp;utm_content=%3Cmedia_url%3E&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JJ Redick praised Ayton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for his effort and defense. He shot 4-of-6 from the field\u2014including an overtime layup that briefly gave LA the lead\u2014and his lone swat came when LA needed it the most, with 23 seconds left in OT. So, we\u2019re very proud of him.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Another Big Test Ahead for Lakers, Ayton<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers will face four contenders in their next five games as part of a (mostly) grueling road trip. First up\u2014ironically enough\u2014is a two-game mini series against the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/03\/15\/will-rockets-lakers-mini-series-be-a-2nd-christmas-for-houston\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Houston Rockets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which gameday graphics pairing Ayton and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/capelca01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clint Capela<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are inevitably going to flood social media. A mature, disciplined and engaged Ayton gives the Lakers a dangerous look and an edge they didn\u2019t necessarily have in last year\u2019s postseason. For as much attention as the big three receive, it\u2019s role players like Ayton who deserve the same hype with how they contribute to the team\u2019s winning ways.
