The G League&#8217;s South Bay Lakers are also on a roll, tying a franchise record with ten straight wins dating back to Feb. 11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several members of LA\u2019s young core have been key to South Bay\u2019s efforts. They&#8217;re gaining valuable reps in the G League while setting their own NBA futures up for success.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Young Lakers Thriving Amid G League Team&#8217;s Winning Streak<\/h2>\n<h3>JJ Redick on South Bay Lakers: \u201cWe\u2019re All One Team\u201d<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to the Lakers\u2019 win over the Chicago Bulls Thursday, head coach JJ Redick <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mcten\/status\/2032279887873261806\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">acknowledged the G League team\u2019s success<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and praised South Bay head coach Zach Guthrie for his work:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think Zach\u2019s done a fantastic job of coaching the players. And the G League is in place for development. It was literally called the Development League. \u2026 So it\u2019s been just an incredible opportunity for our guys to develop. I thought Bronny [James] had just a fantastic year. Adou [Thiero] has done some really good things down there. It\u2019s given our two-way guys a chance to get runs when they\u2019re not with us. The same goes for the team\u2019s two-way players in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nick Smith Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/timmedr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drew Timme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/manonch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Ma\u00f1on<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth noting <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1642261\/boxscores-traditional\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has made limited appearances for South Bay, tallying 18 points (5-13 FG, 2-5 3PT) on Wednesday against the Iowa Wolves. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bufkiko01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kobe Bufkin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Lakers\u2019 newest call-up, has <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1641723\/boxscores-traditional\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not played in the G League<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since LA <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/lakers\/news\/lakers-sign-guard-kobe-bufkin\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signed him to a guaranteed deal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in early February. He finished with 29 points in 37 minutes on Feb. 6 against the Capital City Go-Go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Otherwise, the rest of the developing Lakers are making strides in the G League this season, with the potential to help at the next level now or in the near future.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Bronny James<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When he isn\u2019t receiving cheers from the Lakers faithful in NBA games, Bronny James is putting together an efficient year two in the G League. In 11 regular-season contests for South Bay, he is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1642355\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">averaging<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 15.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals on .545\/.426\/.900 splits. Although his averages are down from his rookie year (when he also played 11 regular-season games), his consistent shooting is an encouraging sign and something to watch as the season goes forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to his aggressive scoring, James Jr.\u2019s playmaking and defense are other key areas toward his success. Still, he has flashed loads of two-way potential that can make him part of LA\u2019s future. In five games, Thiero is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1642876\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">averaging<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 block per game on 68.3% shooting from the field. After a career-best 25 points with five three-pointers, Thiero came back to earth with a modest six points, four assists, two blocks and a rebound. He had a red-hot end to February, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1641733\/boxscores-traditional\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scoring 24, 30 and 20 points<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the month\u2019s final three games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Smith Jr.\u2019s three-point shot hasn\u2019t found the same consistency (28% from deep on the season), he nailed two of five attempts from deep Wednesday toward a 14-point outing, and he remains a viable threat as a potential three-level scorer. The 6\u20199\u201d former Gonzaga star has <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1631166\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">put up 22.9 points<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 blocks across 11 contests. He has also shot 55.7% from the field, 20% from three and 80% from the free-throw line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Timme has impressed with his versatile interior scoring throughout the season, whether it\u2019s being a solid finisher out of the pick and roll or calling his own number on drives. He\u2019s also continued to grow as a playmaker, flashing an otherwise <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/lakers\/onsi\/news\/drew-timme-talks-lakers-role-viral-moment-lebron-luka-and-adjusting-to-the-nba-01kgr02fn6t6\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">underrated skill of his<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by averaging a career high in dimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers have clearly trusted Timme to get some big league opportunities, as Thursday marked his 21st game of the season in LA. Chris Ma\u00f1on joined the Lakers as a known perimeter pest, and he has proven it during his time in the G League this season. Across 25 games, he has racked up nearly two steals per contest while <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1643024\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropping<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 10.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 48.5% shooting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/player\/1643024\/boxscores-traditional\/?Season=2025-26&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ma\u00f1on<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s defense is arguably the strongest part of the game. He has had four games with five steals\u2014including two during South Bay\u2019s winning streak. His offense has come along nicely, however, and he\u2019s shown bursts of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LakersLegacyPod\/status\/2031963778796179874\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">athleticism and physicality<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when scoring in the paint.
