But is consistency enough to fuel SGA&#8217;s MVP campaign to the finish? His return to the court showed that OKC really needs him more than any other player on the floor. True enough, when they needed him to step up, SGA delivered and crushed the competition.<\/p>\n<p>With just a few more missed games before he becomes ineligible for end-of-season awards, SGA is <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/01\/30\/shai-struggles-can-cost-him-the-mvp\/\" target=\"_self\">managing his injury<\/a> and playing the games where OKC needs him most. So far, it&#8217;s been fascinating from the reigning MVP, and he is still a sure-fire lock to repeat by the end of the season. The fact that he&#8217;s missed games and is still playing at a high level consistently is just absurd.<\/p>\n<h2><span data-sheets-root=\"1\">The Pinnacle Of Consistency: SGA&#8217;s MVP Case is Truly Majestic<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 800px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBecLiYl66\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3072px; aspect-ratio: 3072\/2048;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p>Look no further than his recent battle against the New York Knicks, currently playing at near-full strength. In a time when the rest of the Thunder were struggling to consistently shoot buckets, SGA stepped up. He was even flexing his handles when he iso&#8217;d <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anunoog01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OG Anunoby<\/a> at the top of the key before stepping back for a dagger three. All those games have been wins, and OKC has gone 8-2 in its last 10. Two of those three came against contenders &#8212; in the Knicks and the Nuggets. He never scored below 20 points and remains efficient from the field. In fact, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask\/best-guard-field-goal-percentage-this-season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he&#8217;s still shooting at 55.1%<\/a>, which is definitely staggering for a guard with a high usage rate.<\/p>\n<p>His playmaking has been impressive as well. Sure, he&#8217;s averaging 6.5 dimes in the season, but in the games against Denver and New York, he had nine and eight, respectively. That says a lot about the level of play that adds more to SGA&#8217;s MVP case. Then beating a fellow guard in the MVP ladder in <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brunsja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Brunson<\/a> is definitely another statement. That was doubly impressive considering OKC isn&#8217;t at full strength. Last year, he easily dominated as the Thunder were steamrolling through one team after another. They definitely had some rough injuries this year. The most notable injured players are <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willija06.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Williams<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mitchaj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ajay Mitchell<\/a>, who have missed out on a huge chunk of games. This just means that SGA has to carry a whole lot of load along with <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holmgch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chet Holmgren<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/01\/13\/is-chet-holmgren-good-enough-to-hold-okc-center-spot\/\" target=\"_self\">make it work for the Thunder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As of the time of writing, OKC is at 49-15, and is pacing to be the first team to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/01\/23\/okc-record-inches-close-to-championship-defining-feat\/\" target=\"_self\">reach 50 wins once more<\/a>. However, there&#8217;s little separation from their rivals, such as the San Antonio Spurs and even the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/02\/26\/thunder-vs-pistons-show-immense-depth-for-okc\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Pistons<\/a> &#8212; who are both three games back.
