You don&#8217;t see the impact of what that can be, but JJ has put me in positions to be a screener, and I think just the gravity that I have as being one of the top shooters in the league. Teams don&#8217;t want to leave me. So being a screener, getting guys open, you know, it gets me shots if I set good screens.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Kennard\u2019s Consistency Vital for the Lakers<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 800px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBiYqMMISG\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3936px; aspect-ratio: 3936\/2624;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Kennard maintains his offensive versatility while <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zbnzM_MFFhA?si=C6pChV-gEust_fmL&amp;t=296\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">remaining engaged defensively<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Lakers could have a legitimate X-factor on their hands for the rest of the season and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has admirably <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/01\/26\/lakers-forward-opens-up-about-recent-role-change\/\" target=\"_self\">settled into a bench role<\/a>, his season has largely been marred with inconsistency, injury and, recently, an illness. Despite <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/48034239\/los-angeles-lakers-deandre-ayton-future-contract-lebron-james-luka-doncic-2026-playoffs\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent praise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reaveau01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Reaves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aytonde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deandre Ayton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s inconsistency and off-court antics have grown too large to ignore, and the summertime\/early season hype around DA has become, well, DOA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That leaves Kennard as a strong candidate to bear that title, acting as a sort of savior for the second unit. His arrival was huge for a group that struggled with scoring for most of the season\u2014especially from deep. Since Kennard\u2019s debut on Feb. 7, the Lakers\u2019 bench is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?DateFrom=02\/07\/2026&amp;StarterBench=Bench&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=PTS\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21st in scoring<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (36.4 PPG) but <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?DateFrom=02\/07\/2026&amp;StarterBench=Bench&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=FG3_PCT\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sixth in three-point percentage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (37.9%) albeit on low volume (9.7 attempts per game\u2014<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?DateFrom=02\/07\/2026&amp;StarterBench=Bench&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=FG3A\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">29th<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). The veteran obviously won\u2019t catapult them into being the best bench in the league, but he gives them extra offensive firepower while being a seamless fit with both stars and standout role players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/02\/12\/it-took-three-games-for-the-lakers-to-have-a-luke-kennard-three-point-shooting-issue\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kennard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could still improve on his three-point volume as the season goes on (2.7 per game as a Laker). Still, he\u2019s made a great impression and proved how effective he can be when given the green light. And with the immense value he provides off the ball, in plays that often go unnoticed, Kennard\u2019s ability to excel on the margins will be just as important as the points he puts on the board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u00a9 Gary A.
