The Dodgers\u2019 top executives\u2014team president Andrew Friedman and special adviser Farhan Zaidi\u2014have already begun assisting the purple and gold.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRob\u2019s empowered to do what he does \u2026 And he\u2019s talked about it and I can talk about it. Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi, they have involvement helping Rob a bit. It gives you a deeper bench, and I think Rob appreciates that. And it is unique. But they have a skill set that they can transfer some of it here. And that\u2019s really how we look at it. Look, I have a really good relationship with Rob. I\u2019ve known Rob Pelinka from when he was representing Kobe (Bryant). Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Pelinka\u2019s good standing comes as no surprise, what fans may not have expected was the reported return of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsma02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magic Johnson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the franchise icon and one-time President of Basketball Operations for the Lakers from February 2017 to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/magic-johnson-resigns-los-angeles-lakers-president-quit-as-president-of-basketball-operations-tuesday-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">April 2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Johnson will not have a formal title this time around, according to Rosen, who added:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEarvin\u2019s involved with all types of things. He owns football teams, baseball teams, soccer teams, insurance companies, a lot of things. He\u2019s always gonna have some type of involvement with all the teams, but he is not gonna have a day-to-day involvement (with the Lakers).\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosen noted that Johnson will be involved in any potential transactions, but rather that \u201che\u2019ll continue to be a super Laker fan.\u201d Considering the many <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/lakers\/comments\/bcje02\/analysing_magic_johnsons_tenure_as_lakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">polarizing decisions Johnson made<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while at the helm of the Lakers front office, it\u2019s probably for the best that he\u2019s an unofficial sounding board this time around.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Another Crucial Offseason in Luka-LeBron Era<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The latest iteration of the Lakers\u2019 front office comes just in time for another key summer building around <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reaveau01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Reaves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and (presumably) <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There\u2019s no shortage of routes this team could take to supply a city of stars with an A-list supporting cast. An <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7027963\/2026\/02\/06\/lakers-giannis-antetokounmpo-trade-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201call-out pursuit\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/antetgi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is bolder this time around (especially considering how they robbed the Mavericks blind). Investing in high-quality 3-and-D wings and athletic centers is another (and arguably more sane) option, depending on how they utilize the significant projected cap space.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I think I\u2019ve been clear about my feelings on the Lakers\u2019 front office. But there\u2019s no excuse now. Gifted Luka on a silver platter. Have every imaginable financial advantage now. Three FRPs and $50 million in cap space.
