Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. is certainly among that group, being one of the most productive freshmen this year. This season, Acuff has proven himself to be an elite scoring prospect who can also play-make at a high level. He can easily knock down shots from anywhere on the court and can consistently generate paint touches. Acuff possesses the court vision and passing ability to consistently find his teammates for great looks. Such a talented offensive player will be a major addition for any NBA team that selects him. As of February 24th, let’s dive into a ranking of the best fits for Acuff among the various teams in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft.

Best Fits For Arkansas’ Darius Acuff Jr. In The 2026 NBA Draft

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBTzbkNP2U" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3500px; aspect-ratio: 3500/2582;" ></smartframe-embed>

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the teams that need a long-term solution at point guard. Undoubtedly, they need a second offensive option around Cooper Flagg to take the complete offensive load off his shoulders. While guards like Ryan Nembhard and Brandon Williams have done a serviceable job, getting Acuff would significantly raise the ceiling at the point guard position. As for Kyrie Irving, his age certainly prevents him from being that long-term solution next to Flagg.

That is where Acuff can come into the picture. His offensive skill set would be perfect next to Flagg. Not only does he have the excellent shooting to play off of Flagg, but he can create his own shot at a high level. As mentioned before, he can consistently break down defenses and get to the paint. Plus, that ability also helps his great playmaking as he can collapse defenses and create shots for teammates. Acuff himself will benefit from the young defensive personnel that Dallas possesses. Flagg is undoubtedly a highly versatile defender who can guard up and down the lineup. They also have Dereck Lively II and Max Christie, both of whom are great defenders at their positions. They can help cover Acuff and his defensive weaknesses. Overall, Acuff would be a great fit in Dallas and their young core.

Memphis Grizzlies

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2026/02/USATSI_28306323_168420457_lowres-1024x682.jpg" alt=" Arkansas Razorbacks guard Darius Acuff Jr (5) drives against Missouri Tigers guard Mark Mitchell (25) during the second half at Bud Walton Arena. Morant’s future in Memphis is certainly something in doubt, especially after sending Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah. With that in mind, an excellent prospect that can fill his role long-term is Acuff. He possesses the upside and skill set to be the lead guard in their rebuild.

His shot creation and scoring abilities are more advanced compared to guys like Jaylen Wells and Cedric Coward, providing Memphis a boost in perimeter shot-making. Additionally, he has the playmaking skills to be the primary facilitator for the Grizzlies. Memphis can provide Acuff with numerous defenders who can hide his defensive deficiencies. Both Wells and Coward can provide the lengthy wing defense around him. Furthermore, a big like Zach Edey can be his safety net in the middle. The Grizzlies are another team that would benefit from Acuff.

Atlanta Hawks

Another team that can use a long-term solution at point guard is the Atlanta Hawks. After trading away Trae Young to Washington, Atlanta needs a new perimeter shot-creator and playmaker next to Jalen Johnson. Unquestionably, Acuff can provide both things in spades. He is a talented three-level scorer who can play-make at a high level for them. For a team that lacks those skills, Acuff has the potential to be their perimeter threat for the long haul. The Hawks themselves have no shortage of strong defenders in either the frontcourt or the backcourt. Guys like Onyeka Okongwu or Mouhamed Gueye can help Acuff as backline defenders. Additionally, Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker can provide support as perimeter defenders next to him. It is easy to see the fit between Atlanta and Acuff.

Featured Image: Nelson Chenault-Imagn Images

Unquestionably, the 2026 NBA Draft is filled with plenty of talented and skilled point guards.
