How does The Moody Center rank amongst the Spurs’ other courts? For this ranking I will take into account both the actual quality of the buildings and the importance of the moments that occurred there.

Ranking Arenas the Spurs Have Played at, Including Moody Center

Lubbock Municipal Coliseum

Before they were the Spurs, they were the Dallas Chapparals. However, not even Dallas wanted them. In a desperate attempt to gain fans, they played all over Texas. Before this failure would lead to the sale of the team, they made a distant trek to Lubbock, Texas. The strangest looking arena on this list, The Lubbock Municipal Coliseum was demolished in 2019. Although it is difficult to find old pictures of the arena, Texas Tech’s Women’s Basketball Team played there in 2017. And what do you know? The expansive arena lives and breathes 70’s basketball. Unfortunately for its Spurs related legacy, it isn’t very notable. It is also the only arena the Chapparals played in that is completely gone.

Tarrant County Coliseum/Fort Worth Convention Center

Located in downtown Fort Worth, and renamed to the Fort Worth Convention Center, is an oddly shaped dome and a larger rectangular building connected to it. This building held performances by both Elvis Presley and Led Zeppelin and was an occasional home to the Spurs’ former identity. Having attended a graduation here (see how well versed I am in mid-to-small sized arenas?), I can personally say it can pack people in surprisingly well.

From the outside, it looks like a UFO (oh, that’s why Led Zeppelin wanted to play there), but don’t let the look fool you. The raised appearance of the dome wouldn’t tip you off on how low the floor feels when you are inside of it, giving the ceiling a very distant and ginormous appearance, however, unlike American Airlines Center (the Mavs’ current home), the extra areas that should be surrounding the Coliseum are all in one huge several story hallway, giving the building a multi-use feel, instead of a grand one. Just like the other two Chapparal courts, the team’s stay was short-lived.

Moody Coliseum

Serving as the primary home for the Dallas Chapparals, SMU’s Moody Coliseum is on the smaller side compared to the other arenas on this list. In fact, as someone who recently attended a graduation there, it even felt small for that ceremony. Luckily for the short-lived Chapparals, they didn’t need to worry about size as they usually struggled to fill in the seats. Some games here even struggled to go above a hundred tickets sold. Dallas was unfortunately not a basketball city.

Accor Arena

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2026/02/USATSI_25251746_168402037_lowres-1024x769.jpg" alt="[US, Mexico, & Canada customers only] Jan 23, 2025; Paris, FRANCE; San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama battles for position with Indiana Pacers players Pascal Siakam and Aaron Nesmith in the Paris Games 2025 NBA basketball game at Accor Arena. This is a part of the Spurs’ and the league’s growing attempt at growing the NBA’s global impact. It goes without saying the crowd was a bit more behind the Spurs than behind the Indiana Pacers.

Fitting a similar amount of people as the Frost Bank Center, Accor Arena is a marvel to look at. However, its low ceilings are clearly made more fitting for concerts (light effects) than for basketball games, as the low ceiling pushes actual seats outwards and away from the court. There is no doubt that the Spurs will be given the crowd’s favor anytime they play here. The importance of the arena will grow the more the Spurs play here.

The Moody Center

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2026/02/USATSI_28288930_168402037_lowres-1024x683.jpg" alt="Feb 19, 2026; Austin, Texas, USA; San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama (1) leads the crowd in a cheer after a victory over the Phoenix Suns at Moody Center. Mandatory Credit: Scott Wachter-Imagn Images

As someone who has seen the Spurs play in this arena personally, I can’t help but put it high. Sure, it won’t match the seating count of the Spurs’ official arena—in fact, it’s about half the capacity—but the smaller size makes you feel close to the players whether or not you are courtside. Despite its smaller size, the jumbotron, food and audio quality all match that of a real NBA venue. And although coming to Austin isn’t the biggest milestone in the Silver and Black’s history, the energy is something special anytime they play there.

Hemisfair Arena

The Hemisfair Arena was the original home of the San Antonio Spurs after changing identities and ownership from the Dallas Chaparrals. It was also the place Spurs fans were introduced to George Gervin, who later became the face of the franchise. Switching up from the Dallas days, the Spurs found a large 6,000-person crowd to cheer them on opening night. In the 1970’s, the arena was also expanded to fit an extra 6,000 people. This arena represented the birth and growth of the ABA Spurs but misses out on one thing its successors don’t: Championships. However, its historical value should not be forgotten just because it is not at the top of the list.

Alamodome

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2026/02/USATSI_19785655_168402037_lowres-1024x683.jpg" alt="Jan 13, 2023; San Antonio, Texas, USA; A view of the court during the game between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamodome. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

Holding three times the seating of the Frost Bank Center, the Alamodome is a monster and is still in use. This arena is where Tim Duncan and David Robinson met and is also where the Spurs became champions. There is something glorious about the Alamodome, whether it’s the name or the size. So why did the Spurs leave? It was simply too big to be primarily a basketball arena. Most impressively, it is where the Spurs returned to in 2023 to break the NBA’s regular season attendance record.

Frost Bank Center

The current Spurs home court has known multiple names. From the SBN Center to the AT&T Center and finally to the Frost Bank Center in 2023. It helps set the standard for what an NBA arena should be. Frost Bank Center has almost 20,000 seats and an excellent view from most of them. Although it doesn’t match the seat count of the Alamodome, nowhere else has matched it in terms of franchise success. It’s hard to imagine its banners hanging in any other stadium or seeing Gregg Popovich or any other Spurs legend watching their team on a court that didn’t help define their careers. For these reasons alone, it has to sit at the top of the list.

© Daniel Dunn-Imagn Images

The Spurs have returned to Austin with a cruising win over the Phoenix Suns.
