The Clippers, who are 18-6 in their last 24 games, sit three games behind eighth-place Golden State. Eighth place is probably the only realistic goal for the Clippers at this point.

LA will be shorthanded when they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow afternoon. However, NBA Insider Jake Fischer said that the Clippers are signing veteran guard Dalano Banton on Saturday afternoon to increase their depth.

“Source: The Los Angeles Clippers are signing Dalano Banton to a 10-day contracts,” Fischer tweeted.

Banton is a four-year NBA vet who last played for Portland last season, appearing in a career-high 67 games. But the 26-year-old couldn’t find a job this summer until inking an Exhibit 10 deal with Dallas late in training camp. He was ultimately waived seven days after getting the deal from the Mavericks. He has spent the entire season with the Mavs’ G League affiliate, Texas Legends, where he has played well.

In 32 games with the Legenda, Banton has averaged 24.1 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds. Banton is draining 1.6 threes with shooting splits of 43.9/32.3/82.1. He has recorded five double-doubles and one triple-double while also scoring at least 20 points 25 times.

Banton is a big, lanky guard, standing 6-9, who does a lot of the little things well. Banton is at his best in transition and when getting downhill. He is a combo guard but can guard all three backcourt positions on switches. But his lack of a shooting touch is a little problematic, and he doesn’t move the ball well.

Banton figures to be the Clippers’ fourth guard for the game against the Timberwolves. However, the 26-year-old likely won’t see time when the Clippers’ three newcomers make their debut.

© Jayne Kamin-Oncea, Imagn Images

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBr8xzjIEo" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000/1951;" ></smartframe-embed>

Clippers Promote Kobe Sanders

While the addition of Banton brings the Clippers to 14 players on standard contracts, at least temporarily, the Clippers converted rookie Kobe Sanders’s two-way contract to a standard deal late last night. Sanders, who receives a two-year minimum salary, takes over the Clippers’ 15th spot.

“The LA Clippers are signing 2nd round rookie Kobe Sanders to a rest of season minimum contract with a 2026 team option, team source tells The Athletic,” Law Murray tweeted.

Sanders is a capable ball-handler who can create in the mid-range and has shown improvement as a shooter. However, his biggest assets are his size (6-8), length, and defensive versatility. He can guard all three backcourt positions.

Sanders has improved throughout the season and is currently playing his best basketball since the start of the New Year. Sanders averages 7.0 points and 2.5 rebounds with shooting splits of 44.8/38.1/81.4 in 21.5 minutes over 43 appearances. He has scored in double-figures 13 times, including one 20-point effort.

Sanders has been a regular rotational player for the Clippers over the last three months. However, that may change once Darius Garland and Benedict Mathurin make their debut.

Sanders was promoted because he was nearing the NBA’s 50-game active game limit. Still, Sanders is seen as a developmental piece. So, the Clippers may decline his team option for 2025-26 and re-sign him to another two-way deal.

Once Banton’s deal is completed, Los Angeles will have 15 players on standard contracts and will be over $1 aboce the luxury tax. The Clippers will likely waive Banton after his 10-day contract ends during the NBA All-Star break.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBqJe0gyuI" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000/2268;" ></smartframe-embed>

What Is Next For Clippers and Projecting Clippers Rotation When Healthy

Once Banton’s contract expires, the Clippers will likely sign Jordan Miller to a multi-year deal. Like Sanders, Miller has been expected to have his two-way deal converted to a standard deal.

Miller was injured early in the season, so he still has 18 games of eligibility on a two-way deal. Miller is having the best season of his career and, more importantly, has been very efficient. The 26-year-old wing averages 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds along with 1.6 assists with shooting splits of 53.0/36.5/79.2. He has scored in double-figures in 13 of his 30 appearances, topping the 20-point mark four times, and produced one double-double.

Miller is a capable scorer who is at his best when slashing to the basket, whether off the dribble or cutting. Miller doesn’t make many mistakes as a decision-maker and is solid as a defender.

When Miller is promoted, the Clippers will have a pair of open two-way spots. 6-foot point guard Jaelen House and Jahmyl Telfort, who was on a two-way deal earlier this season with the Clippers, are the two most worthy players currently playing with the San Diego Clippers.

Clippers Injury Report

Garland, Mathurin, and Isaiah Jackson are out for the game against the Timberwolves, but not due to injury. All three players are expected to make their season debut on Tuesday at Houston. The Clippers also play the Rockets in Houston on Wednesday.

When whole, Garland and Mathurin will anchor the backcourt. Meanwhile, John Collins and Brook Lopez will likely join Kawhi Leonard upfront. That means Derrick Jones Jr., Kris Dunn, and Jackson will be the first three players off the bench for Ty Lue. Miller would be the ninth player,r with Nic Batum and Sanders likely seeing sparse minutes.

Microsoft Copilot: Your AI companion

The Los Angeles Clippers have miraculously recovered from a franchise-worst start and could be playoff-bound despite trading two starters at the NBA’s trade deadline.
