Similar to their list of trade targets, there\u2019s no shortage of free agents who fit the team\u2019s needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arguably the most popular candidate looking for a new team is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomaca02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cam Thomas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who the Nets waived months after an offseason saga. At 24 years old, Thomas is a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NBA\/status\/1748604675849441418\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">microwave scorer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, averaging 15.6 points despite relatively poor shooting splits (40% FG, 32% 3PT, 84% FT). For a bench that\u2019s been bereft of bucket-getters this season, Thomas seems like a natural offensive fit, particularly as a shooter around the Lakers&#8217; big three.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fellow former Net <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/highsha01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haywood Highsmith<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is another option. He has yet to play this season following surgery on a torn meniscus, but he was <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.silverscreenandroll.com\/lakers-analysis\/107330\/lakers-buyout-rumors-cam-thomas-lonzo-ball-chris-paul-mike-conley\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cleared for five-on-five action<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and holds value as a 3-and-D wing\u2014a critical need the Lakers searched for at the deadline but couldn\u2019t land.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And if improving the defense remains a priority, two more names should come to mind. Former Laker <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/balllo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lonzo Ball<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was traded to and released by the Jazz, and he has become a decent backup point guard (4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.3 steals) after years of recovering from injuries. While he has seen limited opportunities since then, he has given the team a new look in the frontcourt. Known as a physical forward-center who can decently space the floor, Timme is averaging 3.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists across 16 games. He\u2019s also shooting 55% from the field, 35% from deep and 66% from the free-throw line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Timme\u2019s main highlight of the year came in a loss to the Trail Blazers, where he dropped a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LALPerformance\/status\/2012761784965333112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">season-high 21 points<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (9\/12 FG, 3\/4 3PT) with four assists, two rebounds and two steals. It was an all-around performance where he drilled threes off the catch, finished well in the post and on drives, and played the pick-and-roll to perfection\u2014often with a floater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While not the most athletic at 6\u20199\u201d and 235 pounds, he makes up for it with his size, strength, and smarts. The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/lakers\/onsi\/news\/drew-timme-talks-lakers-role-viral-moment-lebron-luka-and-adjusting-to-the-nba-01kgr02fn6t6\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be remiss not to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BrettSiegelNBA\/status\/2019438496537059484\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consider Timme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a guaranteed contract, giving him a better chance to grow his game as a scorer, defender and playmaker.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Look at how Drew Timme seals out both Jamal Murray and Bruce Brown on this LeBron drive. <\/p>\n<p>Feel like I haven&#39;t seen Lakers bigs do this much on drives for the perimeter players this year, but it&#39;s a huge value add. Bufkin remains the G\u2019s <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/stats.gleague.nba.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">regular-season scoring leader<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 27.7 points per game. And Davis earned <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nbagleague\/status\/2018824584687174054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Player of the Week honors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after averaging 32 points, six rebounds and eight assists in three of South Bay\u2019s last four games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pair impressed again this morning despite a<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/gleague.nba.com\/game\/sbl-vs-ccg-2022500275?view=box-score\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> loss to the Capital City Go-Go<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Bufkin had a team-high 29 points on 5\/13 shooting (3\/6 3PT), along with three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Davis, meanwhile, recorded 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and a steal.
