The teams have certainly talked during this transaction cycle, but the purple and gold are reticent to jeopardize their upcoming financial flexibility in the offseason by absorbing Hunter&#8217;s $24.9 million salary for next season.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the team\u2019s perceived interest in Hunter brewed for weeks, a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/cavs\/2026\/01\/cavs-and-lakers-discussing-deandre-hunter-trade-framework-with-third-team-involvement.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Cavs insider Chris Fedor fanned the flames toward a potential deal. The \u201cgeneral framework&#8221; had the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2026\/01\/31\/cavaliers-jump-in-on-trade-talks-for-defensive-specialist-plus-other-cavs-rumors-including-one-with-the-lakers\/3\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> acquiring Hunter for <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/knechda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dalton Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
