Furthermore, someone like Kingston Flemings has seen his draft stock rise with his elite level of play this season. However, Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. is another prospect right up there in talent with those two, and who possessed immense hype going into the college season. While an injury has knocked him out for several weeks, Brown has still impressed as a prospect with his abilities on the offensive end. His potential as an offensive engine would certainly be tantalizing for any team in the lottery. As of January 19th, let’s dive into a ranking of the best fits for Brown among teams currently projected to be in the 2026 NBA Draft lottery.

Best Fits For Louisville’s Mikel Brown Jr. Among Lottery Teams

Dallas Mavericks

To be sure, there are many teams around the league that don’t need to draft another guard for their roster. However, the Dallas Mavericks aren’t one of them as they have a great need for a long-term point guard. While Dallas does have Kyrie Irving on their roster, he is still recovering from his ACL injury and is already 33 years old. Simply put, Irving isn’t going to be a long-term part of Dallas’ core going forward. In the same vein as Flemings, Brown can certainly be the solution at the point guard spot. He has tremendous potential around Cooper Flagg as an efficient three-level scorer and playmaker.

In particular, his playmaking ability and potential are high enough to be the lead guard for Dallas in the future. He would be a great pick-and-roll partner for someone like Dereck Lively II, as Brown has the vision to find him through traffic. Not only that, but he can find perimeter players like Max Christie and create open looks for them when he draws the defense’s attention.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Mavericks and the personnel they have are a perfect fit for Brown. Offensively, Flagg and other players like Ryan Nembhard can help shoulder the offensive burden with Brown. Furthermore, Nembhard and Christie are capable shooters who can give Brown the spacing he needs on his drives. Defensively, Dallas has plenty of size and length that can help cover up Brown’s defensive issues. Overall, getting Brown and putting him with Dallas’ young core would be a massive win in terms of fit and long-term potential.

Memphis Grizzlies

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2026/01/USATSI_27946747_168420457_lowres-1024x683.jpg" alt=" Louisville Cardinals guard Mikel Brown Jr. (0) watches from the sideline during the second half against the Duke Blue Devils at KFC Yum! While they do have Ja Morant, his future with the franchise is murky as trade talks surround the young star. The Grizzlies have to find someone who can be their long-term fit and insurance for losing Morant. For Memphis, Brown can be that player due to his potential as an offensive engine. While he may not have Morant’s athleticism, Brown can give Memphis a lead guard who has deep range as a shooter. Furthermore, Brown has the playmaking ability to be the lead initiator within Memphis’ offense. In particular, Brown’s playmaking in the pick-and-roll would make him a great partner for Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey. He also has the vision to find shooters like Cedric Coward and Jaylen Wells when defenses collapse on his drives.

For Brown, the young personnel that Memphis has currently fits well around him. They have strong perimeter defenders like Coward and Wells who can take defensive assignments on bigger players. Not only that, but Jackson and Edey have the rim protection to cover Brown defensively in the backline. Guys like Scotty Pippen Jr. and Cam Spencer can also share the playmaking burden with Brown at point guard. Should Morant leave Memphis, Brown can serve as the Grizzlies’ insurance in that event. He has the potential to be their point guard of the future.

Featured Image: Nelson Chenault-Imagn Images

The 2026 NBA Draft is a highly talented overall class, but it is markedly filled with incredible guard depth.
