With LA\u2019s bench scoring becoming problematic, could they right the ship with a potential reunion?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Ex-Laker Made Available in Trade Talks; Is a Reunion in the Cards?<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Chris Haynes: Malik Monk on Trading Block<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NBA insider Chris Haynes revealed Tuesday that Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk is \u201c<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChrisBHaynes\/status\/2003485614889664659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">available for trade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d after exiting the rotation in favor of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/elliske01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keon Ellis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/12\/10\/lakers-tied-to-west-rivals-underrated-defender\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakers trade target<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Sacramento Kings, they\u2019re looking to get younger and they\u2019re looking to get more athletic. Malik Monk is somebody who plays extremely hard. He\u2019s a very dynamic player, one of the best sixth men we have in this league. So he presents a ton of value. It\u2019s just a logjam there in Sacramento.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monk, the runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/awards\/awards_2024.html#all_smoy\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2023-24<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has still played well off the bench for the Kings. In 24 games (23 MPG), he has averaged 12.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists on .437\/.411\/.837 splits. He packs an athletic scoring punch to his game while <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/sacramento-kings\/malik-monk-defense-starting-lineup\/1813805\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">steadily improving his defense<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, tallying 19 steals and 11 blocks so far this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response to the series of benchings by head coach Doug Christie, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/basketball.realgm.com\/wiretap\/283211\/Malik-Monk-Confused-By-Doug-Christies-Decision-To-Pull-Him-From-Rotation\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monk said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;He just told me he&#8217;s trying something new.&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added that the decision left him \u201cone thousand percent\u201d confused but noted, &#8220;I&#8217;ve been in the league long enough where I don&#8217;t let this stuff get to me.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Doug Christie says he approached Malik Monk after the game and thanked him for being a pro. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s part of what it is to be a part of a team and a good teammate. LA\u2019s second unit ranks <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?StarterBench=Bench&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=PTS\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dead-last in scoring<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (24.3 points per game) despite decent shooting splits (.464\/.369\/.713), and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/12\/21\/lakers-head-into-christmas-week-with-several-injury-concerns-what-does-it-mean-when-could-players-return\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">injuries to stars<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/12\/18\/lakers-injury-gabe-vincent-utah-jazz\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">veteran role players<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> haven\u2019t helped at all, either. Monk could slide in at the perfect time to give the Lakers\u2019 second unit some firepower. Any defensive concerns could be mitigated alongside stalwarts in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smartma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcus Smart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vandeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jarred Vanderbilt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the latter of whom recently returned from his own string of DNP-CD\u2019s. The Lakers, as mentioned ad nauseam, have the expiring contracts of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vincega01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gabe Vincent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/klebima01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maxi Kleber<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to use in potential trades (as well as <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s if they\u2019re serious about upgrades).
