The <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/golden-state-warriors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Golden State Warriors<\/a> added a three-time all-star to their already all-star laden roster. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a><\/strong>, the best player in the world, joined the Western Conference. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul George<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>opted to stay in Oklahoma\u00a0City and continue to play with<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/westbru01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Westbrook<\/a><\/strong>. The Rockets lose some key contributors without adding a lot to offset their losses. Now that most of the moving pieces are settled, we can take a look at the key moves from all the teams in the west.<\/p>\n<h2>NBA Western Conference Off-Season Recap<\/h2>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/houston-rockets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston\u00a0Rockets<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 65-17<\/p>\n<p>The Rockets were a hamstring injury away from possibly beating Golden State in the Western Conference Finals. However, some key contributors left this off-season. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/arizatr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trevor Ariza<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mbahalu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luc Mbah a Moute<\/a><\/strong>, two important pieces to the Rockets defensive scheme, left via free agency. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Paul<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/capelca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clint Capela<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gerald Green<\/a> <\/strong>are all coming back, along with free agents<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cartemi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Carter-Williams<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anthoca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carmelo Anthony<\/a><\/strong>. As a result of all these moves, it\u00a0seems like Houston has downgraded their roster a bit.<\/p>\n<h2>Golden State Warriors<\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 58-24<\/p>\n<p>The defending champs brought back<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Durant<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/looneke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevon Looney<\/a><\/strong>. They also signed three-time all-star <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/couside01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeMarcus Cousins<\/a> <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jerebjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonas Jerebko<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0which offsets the loss of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pachuza01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zaza Pachulia<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcgeeja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JaVale McGee<\/a><\/strong>. The important thing was to bring Durant back, which Golden State did. All other moves are not that important and bringing in Cousins just makes it seem more unlikely that Golden State\u00a0gets dethroned.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/portland-trail-blazers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 49-33<\/p>\n<p>The Trail Blazers were good, but not great last year. They let <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davised01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ed Davis<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/napiesh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shabazz Napier<\/a> <\/strong>leave. They replaced them with<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/curryse01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seth Curry<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stausni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nik Stauskas<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nurkiju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jusuf Nurkic<\/a><\/strong> is coming back on a four-year deal. In closing, they have not improved or worsened in any significant way and they are stuck in the deep Western Conference.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/oklahoma-city-thunder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oklahoma\u00a0City Thunder<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 48-34<\/p>\n<p>George surprised a lot of people and decided to stay in OKC. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/noelne01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nerlens Noel<\/a> <\/strong>was signed to a two-year deal, which is a good low-risk move. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/schrode01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Schroder<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/luwawti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot<\/a><\/strong> were acquired via trade. Most importantly,<a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/07\/29\/cutting-dead-weight-okc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> OKC found a way to get rid of Carmelo Anthony<\/a>. With not a lot of cap room available, <strong>Sam Presti<\/strong> did a nice job this off-season.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/utah-jazz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Utah Jazz<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 48-34<\/p>\n<p>Utah was one of the hottest teams in basketball in the second half of last year. They re-signed all of the important free agents\u00a0and drafted <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/allengr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grayson Allen<\/a><\/strong> to bolster their bench.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/new-orleans-pelicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Orleans Pelicans<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 48-34<\/p>\n<p>The Pelicans\u00a0lost Cousins last year to injury and decided not to re-sign him. They also let <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rondora01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rajon Rondo<\/a><\/strong> go. New Orleans&#8217; vision is to have a younger roster, so<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/randlju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julius Randle<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paytoel01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elfrid Payton<\/a><\/strong> come aboard to fill the void. This can be a successful\u00a0off-season if Randle expands his game and learns to pass the ball more.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/san-antonio-spurs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Antonio Spurs<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 47-35<\/p>\n<p>The Spurs were in a sticky situation, but have made out pretty well in getting<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/derozde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeMar DeRozan<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0aboard. They also drafted a talented rookie in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkelo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lonnie Walker<\/a><\/strong> and signed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/belinma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marco Belinelli<\/a><\/strong>.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/parketo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Parker<\/a> <\/strong>leaving creates a hole in terms of veteran presence, but Gregg Popovich is one of the best coaches in the league and can cover the hole Parker left. <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/08\/08\/why-the-san-antonio-spurs-expectations-will-be-exceeded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This Spurs team is better than last years team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/minnesota-timberwolves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 47-35<\/p>\n<p>The Timberwolves bring back pretty much the same roster as last year.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/denver-nuggets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denver Nuggets<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 46-36<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jokicni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikola Jokic<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bartowi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Will Barton<\/a><\/strong> are coming back to Denver, while<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/farieke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenneth Faried<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/chandwi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wilson Chandler<\/a><\/strong> got traded in salary dumps. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomais02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Isaiah Thomas<\/a> <\/strong>was signed to provide a scoring punch off the bench. Lastly, anything they get from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/portemi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Porter<\/a><\/strong> Jr. is a plus. The Nuggets are a good team that got a little bit better.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/los-angeles-clippers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 42-40<\/p>\n<p>The Clippers are in the middle of a semi-rebuild.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jordade01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeAndre Jordan<\/a><\/strong> signed with the Mavericks, so the Clippers sent<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/riverau01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Austin Rivers<\/a><\/strong> to the Washington Wizards for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gortama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcin Gortat<\/a><\/strong>. Mbah a Moute was bought aboard along with<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=scottmi01,scottmi02&amp;search=Mike+Scott&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Scott<\/a><\/strong>. The biggest reason for optimism is<a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/05\/13\/shai-gilgeous-alexander-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> rookie guard<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gilgesh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/a><\/strong>. Gilgeous-Alexander along with fellow rookie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robinje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jerome Robinson<\/a><\/strong> will determine whether this off-season is considered a successful one or not.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/los-angeles-lakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 35-47<\/p>\n<p>The biggest move here is obviously signing James. Rondo,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stephla01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lance Stephenson<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beaslmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Beasley<\/a><\/strong> and McGee were also added to the roster, creating an interesting mix of players. To accommodate all the new players coming in a few players will not return.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lopezbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brook Lopez<\/a><\/strong>, Randle, Thomas and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fryech01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Channing Frye<\/a><\/strong> all left via free agency. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caldwke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/a><\/strong> was retained on a one year deal.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnba.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/nba-teams\/sacramento-kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sacramento Kings<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>2017-18 record 27-55<\/p>\n<p>With the second pick in the draft, the Kings passed over <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luka Doncic<\/a><\/strong> and drafted<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/baglema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marvin Bagley<\/a> III<\/strong>. They signed<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/ferreyo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yogi Ferrell<\/a><\/strong> and traded for their former lottery pick<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mclembe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ben McLemore<\/a><\/strong>.
