With tip-off just one week away and the NBA preseason coming to an end, the New York Knicks<\/b> are on the verge of finalizing their roster; however, their plans may have taken a blow. Undrafted point guard Chasson Randle<\/b> has suffered an orbital fracture, and his timeline to return is at least three weeks.<\/a> His unfortunate injury leaves the Knicks with only two true point guards in Derrick Rose<\/a> and Brandon Jennings<\/a>. The Knicks may look internally for a replacement with shooting guard Sasha Vujacic<\/a>.\u00a0But if they decide to look elsewhere, they have some intriguing options to choose from to make their third string point guard.<\/p>\n

The New York Knicks Are In Search Of A Third String Point Guard<\/h2>\n

Mario Chalmers<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Former\u00a0Heat<\/b>\u00a0and Grizzlies<\/b> point guard Mario Chalmers<\/strong> could be a player of intrigue. Overall, Chalmers is a\u00a0sound player. He can hit the three pointer, put the ball on the floor, and while not great, Chalmers isn’t a bad defender. He has also proved that he can be a glue guy. During his time with the Miami Heat, Chalmers was able to produce enough to help assist Lebron James<\/b>, Dwayne Wade<\/b>, Chris Bosh<\/b>, in what was the original big three, to two NBA championships. Despite the fact that Chalmers isn’t a franchise player or someone who you can run your offense through, he’s a proven player who could provide a spark off the Knick bench. However, if they wanted more of a veteran, perimeter point guard, the Knicks could look at Kirk Hinrich<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Kirk Hinrich<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

Longtime Bulls<\/b> guard Kirk Hinrich could be a nice fit in New York. While on the back nine of his career, Hinrich still has some productive basketball left in him. He is still a good shooter from the outside, and can still run an offense to an extent; his defensive abilities are also above par. Hinrich would also be a good fit in Phil Jackson<\/b>‘s triangle offense. Jackson likes to have guys who can hit the three pointer and\u00a0pose a defensive threat on the perimeter. Despite his age, Hinrich would be a shrewd move for the Knicks. Another veteran point guard who would fit in seamlessly would be Steve Blake<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Steve Blake<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

Former Lakers<\/b> point guard Steve Blake would be an ideal signing for the Knicks. Blake, while not a formidable force defensively, has always been a reliable shooter from the outside. He could serve as a three-point snipper off the bench, which is a skill set the Knicks have been deprived of since Steve Novak<\/a>. Blake would be a very good, under-the-radar signing for the Knicks.<\/p>\n

The injury to youngster Chasson Randle has derailed the Knicks’ plans for finalizing their roster; however, they could find a replacement for him on the free agent market. With Mario Chalmers, and veterans such as Kirk\u00a0Hinrich and Steve Blake available, the Knicks could find a serviceable player to fill the void that exists at point guard.<\/p>\n
