After exiting Wednesday\u2019s 107-105 win over the Indiana Pacers with what the team originally categorized as left lower leg soreness, Dallas Mavericks big man Anthony Davis<\/a> will miss at least the next two games due to a low-grade left calf strain<\/a> following an MRI on Friday evening, the team has announced.<\/p>\n

Davis will be re-evaluated after the team returns from their current road trip.<\/p>\n

Anthony Davis Out At Least 2 Games With Low-Grade Calf Strain<\/h2>\n

Davis came out of Wednesday\u2019s game at the 4:12 mark of the first quarter after coming down gingerly.<\/p>\n

Mavs coach Jason Kidd revealed that the 10-time All-Star attempted to return to the game but was held out after further evaluation in the locker room. \u201cHe tried to return — didn’t want to take any chances<\/a>,” Kidd told reporters when asked about Davis\u2019 injury Wednesday night after the game (h\/t ESPN’s Tim MacMahon). “We’ll see how he feels moving forward.”<\/p>\n

Now, Davis will be on the sidelines when the Mavericks take on the Detroit Pistons on Saturday in Mexico City and the Houston Rockets on Monday night in Houston. Prior to Friday’s practice in Mexico City, Kidd told reporters that Davis is “day-to-day.”<\/p>\n

“It is going to be day to day<\/a>,” Davis says, echoing Kidd. “But I feel better that is for sure.”<\/p>\n

What’s Next For The Mavs?<\/h3>\n

Davis’s injury history is well-documented, including the injury he sustained briefly after arriving<\/a> in Dallas last season. In 2024-25, he missed 18 games after exiting his Mavs debut with tightness near his groin and quadriceps. He managed to return for the final eight games of the season. However, it was too little too late, as Dallas still fell short of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

This season, Davis is averaging a double-double, with a team-best 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds through five games. Still, the Mavericks entered Friday ranking 28th in points per game, 25th in field-goal percentage, 27th in 3-point percentage and 24th in assists per game as a team.<\/p>\n

The Mavs will now try to navigate at least the next two games without their leader.<\/p>\n

Reinforcements Are Coming<\/h3>\n

More offensive firepower is expected in the second half of the season. The Mavs continue to play without point guard Kyrie Irving<\/a> while he rehabs his way back from a torn ACL suffered last season. Dallas is hoping that the star shot-creator can return in January<\/a>. Mavs center Dereck Lively II<\/a> (knee sprain) will miss his third straight game against Detroit. Fellow center Daniel Gafford<\/a> (ankle sprain) is listed as questionable against the Pistons after missing the first five games.<\/p>\n
