Jones was the No. 1 pick in Saturday’s G-League draft after the Washington Wizards cut him at the end of training camp.

“The Rip City Remix has traded for 2024 NBA first-round pick Dillon Jones from the South Bay Lakers, a source told DraftExpress,” Givony tweeted. “Jones was the No. 1 pick in the G League Draft after winning an NBA championship with the OKC Thunder as a rookie.”

Jones Scouting Report and NBA Transactions

While Jones is headed to Rip City, the Trail Blazers must like him to trade for him. Portland has 15 players under contract, including all three of its two-way spots. But three of the players —Damian Lillard, Scoot Henderson, and Robert Williams III — are sidelined due to injuries. Williams was assigned to The Remix today as he rehabs his knee. He projects to return to the Blazers soon.

Jones, who has 54 games of NBA experience, is a versatile forward with a solid all-around game and the ability to defend multiple positions. Jones is an elite rebounder who leverages his basketball IQ with positioning. The 6-5 wing can also facilitate the offense and guard four positions, except the point guard. He does need to improve his 3-point shooting.

Jones averaged 2.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 11 minutes of action for the Thunder last season. The 23-year-old struggled shooting the ball, shooting 38.3/25.4/60.7. He produced one double-double and scored in double figures three times.

With the trade, Jones will suit up for his third different NBA organization in nearly a year and a half. Selected with the No. 26 pick in 2024 by Washington, Jones was traded twice on draft day. First, the Wizards sent him to New York along with a 2024 2nd round draft pick (Melvin Ajinça) for Kyshawn George.

New York immediately shipped Jones to the Thunder for five future second-round picks. The Knicks used the 2025 second-round selection on Kobe Sanders, who was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers one day after being selected. The Knicks still have a 2026 second-round selection and three 2027 second-round picks.

Jones Headed To Rip City

In addition to making three starts for the Thunder, Jones saw action in 10 playoff games. Following the 2025 NBA draft, the Thunder faced a roster number crunch, so OKC dealt Jones back to Washington for Colby Jones.

Jones played for the Wizards’ 2025 summer league squad, averaging 10.5 points and 4.2 boards with shooting splits of 48.3/25.0/78.6. He scored in double-figures twice and compiled a double-double in four summer contests.

However, like OKC, Jones had an uphill battle to make the Wizards out of camp, as they started the preseason with 16 players on standard contracts. Jones didn’t see a ton of action in training camp and was eventually waived on October 19.

After passing through waivers, Jones became a free agent. He subsequently entered the G-League draft and was chosen with the No. 1 overall pick by South Bay.

Now Jones will try to work his way back to the Association with the Remix. Speaking of the Remix, they sent two first-round picks and the rights to Will Richardson to South Bay. Richardson, a 6-5 point guard, has spent the previous two seasons with the Denver Nuggets’ G-League affiliate, Grand Rapids Gold. He appeared in a game with the Nuggets this past training camp.

© Geoff Burke, Imagn Images

2024 First-round pick Dillon Jones is on the move once again. 2024 NBA First-Round Pick Traded By Lakers In Minor Deal According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Portland Trail Blazers‘ G-League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, has acquired the rights to Jones from the South Bay Lakers.
