Not only that, Peat is one of the best forwards in the 2026 NBA Draft cycle. With the start of the NBA season less than a week away, that also signals the impending return of College Basketball. Considering that, now is the right time to become familiar with a prospect like Peat.

Let’s dive into a prospect preview.

2026 NBA Draft Prospect Preview: Arizona Forward Koa Peat

January 10, 2025; Chandler, Ariz.; USA; Perry forward Koa Peat (10) shoots against Basha during the a game at Basha High School.

Areas Of Excellence

Physical Rim Scoring

For Peat, the most apparent thing about him is his physicality as a player, especially when scoring. He certainly knows how to use his strength to bully his way to the rim for the finish. Peat can absolutely handle contact and get to the free-throw line. While Peat has the strength to deal with contact when going to the rim, he also has a great handle and body control when operating in the paint. Both aspects allow him to shake off defenders and get open looks at the basket. He even has the handling ability to start fast-breaks and to attack closeouts. Off the ball, Peat is just as effective in terms of his rim attack. He operates well as a cutter and in the pick-and-roll as the screener.

Impressive Passing Skill

Adjacent to his excellence as a paint threat is Peat’s great passing ability for his size. Peat has demonstrated solid passing vision, even making some high-level passes. He’s also been able to use his threat as an interior scorer to collapse defenses on him and create looks for his teammates.

Strong Defense And Rebounding

While Peat is primarily known for his interior scoring, he’s also a good defender and strong rebounder. His size and strength give him the versatility to guard multiple positions; specifically, both forward spots and smaller centers. He’s also shown flashes of being mobile enough to defend along the perimeter. What’s more impressive defensively is his utilization of his length as a playmaker. He’s constantly bothering passing lanes or shots put up by opposing players. In addition, Peat’s an amazing rebounder on both ends, using his size and strength to outmuscle others for the ball.

Perry forward Koa Peat dribbles against Sunnyslope during the Boys Open State Championship at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum on March 8, 2025.

Areas Of Concern

Poor Shooting From Everywhere

The biggest area in which Peat must improve is his ability to shoot. To be fair, Peat has demonstrated solid shot-making from the midrange. However, he isn’t a good shooter overall, especially from 3-point range. His shooting form looks extremely clunky, and he’ll need to rework his mechanics. Bearing that in mind, Peat will need to develop a functional shot to raise his ceiling. In fact, not only does his outside shooting need work, he also needs to improve from the free-throw line.

Limited Scoring Diversity

Another aspect of Peat’s offense that needs improvement is his overall scoring diversity, expanding his offensive game rather than just using his brute strength to overpower everyone. In the league, Peat won’t consistently be the biggest or strongest player on the floor. He has to add other dimensions to his game just in case his typical approach is countered.

Not The Quickest Or Most Explosive

While Peat is physically built and tall, he isn’t the quickest or the most explosive. When he is going to score at the rim, he isn’t the type to blow by opponents using speed or explosiveness. That’s not to say that Peat isn’t quick or explosive, as he has shown that he is capable of such feats. He’s even a real lob threat. Nevertheless, he is more reliant on strength as a core part of his game.

Perry students grab autographed pictures of basketball player Koa Peat during National Signing Day at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona on April 16, 2025.

The Last Word On Arizona Forward Koa Peat, 2026 NBA Draft Prospect

Overall, Peat is an incredibly physical and talented forward who impacts the game with his two-way play.

He utilizes his physicality to break down defenses in the paint, where his excellent touch around the rim helps him be a great interior scorer. Plus, he has the vision and basketball IQ to be a great passer for his position. Defensively, Peat’s size, length, and strength allow him to be a versatile defender who can be a disruptive playmaker.

Peat does need to expand his offensive game, especially in terms of shooting. Nevertheless, he’s undeniably one of the most talented forwards in the class. He isn’t on the same level as Dybantsa or Boozer, but he would still be an excellent get for teams in the lottery.

© Cheryl Evans/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Among the talented crop of freshmen going to Arizona, forward Koa Peat is the best of all of them.
