But this could be an unexpected opportunity for Smart\u2014a former notable starter with the Celtics\u2014to redeem himself after two injury-riddled seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smart appears ready to change the narrative heading into this season, as he\u2019s already made a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/nbaanalysis.net\/what-marcus-smart-did-against-austin-reaves-in-la-lakers-practice-is-going-to-be-big-jj-redick-was-impressed\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">great first impression on his teammates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and head coach <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/jj-redick-marcus-smart-looked-awesome-in-return-to-lakers-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JJ Redick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Reaves and Redick have cited Smart\u2019s defense, communication and leadership as his most impressive attributes to begin training camp\u2014tenets the Lakers will rely on throughout the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With three offensive-minded players in Doncic, Reaves and Hachimura, Smart could slide right in as a defensive pest who takes pressure off of those three and Ayton, able to guard multiple positions in different situations. The 6\u20198\u201d wing fills a crucial role as a 3-and-D wing, and he has shown off those abilities and more throughout preseason.
