As a restricted free agent, Kuminga is limited in what he can get from other teams. This summer, there were not many teams with cap space to offer a deal. Currently, the Warriors want to secure him on a tradeable contract, while he and his representatives seek more options on their side. As a result, he might be willing to sign the qualifying offer and enter unrestricted free agency in 2028. For the Warriors, that would be the worst-case scenario<\/a>. Every Team Might Call Jonathan Kuminga Next Summer<\/h2>\n

While many teams around the league are gearing up for the summer of 2027, when Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a> might become a free agent, Kuminga might be able to strike gold in 2026. The Warriors also want to be able to have cap space in 2027<\/a>, which is why they want him on a team-option deal after one or two years.<\/p>\n

Top Free Agents in 2026<\/h3>\n

Right now, some of the top free agents<\/a> that might hit the open market in 2026 include Austin Reaves<\/a> from the Los Angeles Lakers, Norman Powell<\/a> from the Miami Heat, Anfernee Simmons<\/a> from the Boston Celtics, John Collins<\/a> from the Los Angeles Clippers, Coby White<\/a> from the Chicago Bulls, Bennedict Mathurin<\/a> from the Indiana Pacers, and Dyson Daniels<\/a> from the Atlanta Hawks. Out of those, Daniels is the only one currently negotiating with the Hawks about an extension. The Bulls cannot offer White what he wants, and the Pacers will wait to see how Mathurin develops before committing to a long-term deal.<\/p>\n

There will be names like LeBron James<\/a> and Kevin Durant<\/a>, too. However, speaking about players that are either young, waiting for the first contract, or veterans in their prime, that is the list of players who will compete with Kuminga.<\/p>\n

Realistically, Reaves might re-sign with the Lakers, leaving Mathurin, White, and Simmons as his biggest competitors. In such a market, Kuminga can get a lucrative deal that makes him the centerpiece of the team.<\/p>\n

How Much Does Jonathan Kuminga Want in Free Agency?<\/h3>\n

Recently, Kuminga\u2019s agent, Aaron Turner, spoke with The Hoop Collective about Jonathan Kuminga’s free agency situation. In the podcast, he talked about a number that Kuminga feels comfortable with, mentioning two specific contracts, Jalen Johnson<\/a> and Jalen Green<\/a>. Both will earn $30 million plus for the next three years. Green got a two-plus-one deal, with the third year a player option.<\/p>\n

However, in the same podcast, Turner talked about how he and Jonathan understand that due to the second apron rules, the Warriors cannot offer that much money<\/a>, which is why they are looking for a player option. They believe Kuminga is leaving money on the table upfront, and they want something on the back of the deal that will help him get a more lucrative deal sooner.<\/p>\n
